Guard Your Heart

Proverbs 4:23 KJV 1900
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; For out of it are the issues of life.
Intro: I have never seen or meet anyone that did not want to be or one day be in a romantic relationship.
When it comes to romantic relationships, we have to trust God. We have to trust God, because when it comes to matters of the heart, if we are not careful, we can deceive ourselves.
Lonely
I just want someone to love me.
There are no good men in the church.
I’m tired of being by myself.
Jeremiah 17:9–10 KJV 1900
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 10 I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
Jeremiah 17:9 KJV 1900
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
What Is Our Heart?
From a spiritual stand point, the heart is that inner most part of us where our emotions and desires dwell.
What Happens when we settle for less than God’s best.
We can be influenced to do things contrary to God’s word
We can compromise the things that we believe in and what we stand for
We experience suffering because of our disobedience
It is important that often times we experience less than God’s best when we are in relationships with unbelievers. However we can also experience less than God’s best when are in relationship with another believer that may want to do something that compromises our beliefs as well. It is during those time that we must speak the truth and stand on the word of God.
ADAM AN EVE
Genesis 3:4–7 KJV 1900
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. 7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
Samson And Delilah
Deuteronomy 7:2–5 KJV 1900
2 And when the Lord thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them: 3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. 4 For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly. 5 But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.
Deuteronmy 7

Sampson’s Downfall

Jeremiah 16:7 KJV 1900
7 Neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.
Jeremiah

11 And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.

Jeremiah 16:11 KJV 1900
11 Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the Lord, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law;
Third Attempt
Jeremiah
Judges 16:13 KJV 1900
13 And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.
Samson Gives In
Judges 16:15–18 KJV 1900
15 And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth. 16 And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death; 17 That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a rasor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother’s womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man. 18 And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.
David and Bathsheba
2 Samuel 11:1–5 KJV 1900
1 And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem. 2 And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. 3 And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 4 And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house. 5 And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.
When it comes to matters of the heart, how can we guard our heart?
King David and Bathsheba
Marriage And Relationships
2 Corinthians 6:14–18 KJV 1900
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
1 Corinthians 7:12–14 KJV 1900
12 But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. 13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.
