Child Like Father
Apple dosent fall far from the tree.
She is just like her daddy
He is just like his daddy.
A Child will usally be just like their father,
My son has a passion for wreck truck, he loves to tow things, to hook up a trailer behind the truck, to work the controls on the tow trucks at work.
He once had a tri-cycle with a wrecker boom on the back of it.
He towed the garbage can from the street to the house with it.
Kids usally are like their father.
espcially sons and fathers.
Maybe in looks, in brains, in humor, in thoughts, in education.
In trade.
Then at times they are different
In our text today we see this, Jesus tells us about such and gives great explanation.
john chapter 8
The first thing we see here is that Jesus says that He knows that they are the offspring of Abraham,
Through their ancestory, throught their blood line, He knows they are kin but.......
They are seeking to Kill Jesus.
Why? why are they seeking to kill Jesus?
Because my Word finds no place in you Jesus tells them.
Look at the words finds no place in you,
in the Greek language it is the word chorei, it has the meaning of making progress or headway.
Jesus is telling them that His Word is making no headway of progress in thier lives.
I have been telling you, showing you by works, teaching you and it hasnt made any effect in your life at all.
The Lords Word finds no place in many people,
Some people won’t hear any part of Gods Word,
The word Word here, means message, The Message of Jesus.
Many people wont hear any of it, want no part of it at all.
They wont even consider coming to church at all , a few will come to church if its a funeral or a wedding, but thats it!
They want no part of it.
Then their are other people who will listen to the Lords Word, They will come to church
They will make time on Sunday for the Lords Word.
They dont mind hearing a sermon, a good teaching or a bad one as far as that goes.
They figuer I paid my dues today so I’m good now.
I have had the privilege to talk to a lot of people, one of the things I like to talk about was what was the message about Sunday at their church?
If I have asked 25 people this question , only a very few can tell you anything about the sermon they heard at all.
What was the message, I dont kmow
What was the main point?

What Book was they preaching from, Can you guess what the answer was?
Either their are a lot of boreing, bad bad preachers out their or Their is no room for the Lords Word in them.
If they sought after Jesus to kill Him, surley they will do the same to you.
No place, Chorie, making no progress or headway in ones life.
Christians play it safe today though, They try to be a secret Christian.
One can come to church and hear the Lords Word,
The big question is does it make any headway in your life?
people can leave church knowing a great deal more than they came knowing, but does it have any effect on their lives?
Did Godw Word have any effect on their life?
The Jewish leaders had His Word, His Message,
They didnt even have to reley on a preacher or teacher,
They had it straight from jesus Himself,
Yet it made no difference in their lives, It made no progres sor headway.
These people were releigious to the bone, and they thought with all they had that they were good to go.
To Heaven!!!
And the all the while they were only going to hell!
This is a scary and yet sad condition,
What is even more scary is that so many are in this same place today.
What is a question one could ask themself in order to do a little self examnation on this topic?
vs 38 tells us.
Jesus says He speaks what His Father has spoke,
Then He goes on and says that they speak what their father has spoke.
Notice the words Father, one is with a captiol F and with a lower case f.
The self test?
When you speak, who does it sound like?
Does it reflect your heavenly Father,
Or does it reflect the world, the other father
When we do something why do we do it, why do we speak the way we speak?
I have asked, why do you do that?
I am often told because that is the way its been done always before.
Thats the way it is.
Doing things from tradition is ok as long as it is acnhored in the Word of God.
But if its anchored in the tradations of man ,
as the robot on Lost in space always said to Will Robinson, warning warning.
Abraham is our father they said,
The Jewish leaders knew what Jesus was saying in vs 38, he was refering to the the devil!
They are saying, no way
we are as releigious as they come.
we pray, we go to church, tither, obey and uphold the law,
We are striaght,
and to top it all off we are from Abraham, so we are grandfathered in!
I wonder how many people think this way today?
My grandfather was a pastor, my great grandparents built this church, etc.
God has no grandchildren.
This isnt refering to a Abrahams physical decendents,
but rather spirtual decendents which they were not!
What Jesus is saying here in verse 39 isnt refering to a physical decendant but rather a spirtual decendent.
You are doing the works that your father did,
remember they were wanting to kill Jesus, they were doing the works of their father, a murder a killer

That at least they werent born out of wed-lock.

about 65% of children born today are born out of wed-lock
Whenever you are trying to share with someone dont be suprised if they bring up your past to derail you.
The proof is here in this veres they did not belieive who Jesus was nor know Him,
Had they know who Jesus was they would have know that He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, That He was the Son of God!
But they refused to beleive this.
Its worthy to also note here that Jesus dosent even coment on this remak they made.
