I feel blessed that two years ago I got to celebrate mothers day in Wales and I attended a mothers day service just like this and it was awesome.
And now having spent the last three weeks with my parents… I got spend quality time with my mom and it was very special..I feel very grateful..and blessed.
Moms are amazing…

Moms are amazing… even when you all grown up they still care about your diet, your health and general well being.
When you think about what mothers do on a day in and out basis it’s truly amazing..
The roles of mom’s have changed over the last several decades and not only are moms managing children and homes but many are contributing financially to the home…they are also running business, working extra jobs, volunteering… we celebrate these moms.. for the gifts and abilities in juggling busy schedules and busy homes and still being good parents.

Then there are the stay at home moms..they are also our hero’s.
Stay at homes moms often are making huge sacrifices and there is a selflessness that comes from these mom’s… choosing to be home with their children…is a huge blessing for their children and families.

Author and preacher Tony Campolo said that when his wife, Peggy, was at home full time with their children and someone would ask, "And what is it that you do, my dear?"
She would respond, "I am socializing two Homo sapiens into the dominant values of the Judeo-Christian tradition in order that they might be instruments for the transformation of the social order into the kind of eschatological utopia that God willed from the beginning of creation."
Then Peggy would ask the other person, "And what do you do?"

Abraham Lincoln “All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel Mother.”
George Washington  “My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw.
All I am I owe to my mother.
I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her.” –
We thank you and celebrate and want to say thank you to all of you... Trust that you feel appreciated today.
This morning we are going to conclude a sermon series entitled Gifted.
We have been talking about how God has uniquely gifted us as the church..
When Christ ascended he gave gifts to the church..
These gifts (graces) were given for the benefit and edification (building up) of the local church… When we talking about Discovering we talking about being good stewards of what has been given to us.
Our gifts are not for ourselves but they are for the benefit of others… We serve one another through the gifts..
It is how we express Christ’s love and concern to one another…

There are Three Principles from … The first is that we are to:
1. TAKE THE TIME TO DISCOVER YOUR GIFT
Discovery is something wonderful… Have you ever watch a toddler pick up a lady Bird, a cricket or examine a frog.
When they pick up these little critters you have to say be gentile because you don’t want a fun learning experience to get ugly..
Peter tells us that each of us have Received a gift…
Children are created with innate desire for discovery and everything is an adventure… When it comes to our gifts and talents… there should be this sense of discovery… What is the gift mix that God has given you?
It is easy for us to neglect our gifts or for gifts to lie dormant..
The gifts that God have given are actually permanent… God does not give you a gift and take it away they are permanent..
- Peter tells us that each of us have Received a gift… .
- Peter tells us that each of us have Received a gift…
The verb “received” is written in the past tense and it implies that a transaction as already taken place - something has been given and something has been recieved… In other words, we are not waiting for a spiritual gift...… they have been given and received - they are in our possession.
Spiritual gifts are closely related to our talents and it can be a little confusing.
What often gets a little confusing is that ou Spiritual gifts are closely related to our talents… I love this Definition:
Simple Definition:
We have some
there is a changing of hands.
God has given us a gift or gifts… they have been received and are in our possion..
“A spiritual gift is a talent or ability empowered by the Holy Spirit and able to be used in the ministry of the church.”
past tense transaction as already taken place - something has been given and something has been recieved… In other words, we are not waiting for a gift...… they have been received and the gift or gifts are in our possession.
As you look at the list of gifts - there is going to be at least one if not more that you have already recognize that you have.
Some of us just love to entertain others and you look forward to that… Hospitality gift… On the other hand you may look through the list say come to: Mercy, administration, teaching .. and you already know that is not your strength.
The point of Discovery is that there may a gift that is not so obvious and you have either under estimated or under utilized the gift.
Your dominant gift can also overshadow some other of your gifts…
To may look through the list and lets say come to: Mercy, or administration, or some of the speaking gifts.. and already be aware that this is not one of the strength.
Here is the other thing is that your dominant gifts might overshadow some other gifts… We need to realize that most of us have a gift mix and be open to discovering other strengths..
You have a spiritual gift.... God does not take this back.
The second principle
2. MOVE IN THE DIRECTION OF YOUR GIFT
ESV As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace
Peter says Use it to serve others
We are to Use OUR Gift/ GIFTS to serve others
Have your ever been given something and then re-gifted it for someone else?
If you didn't regift it is somewhere in your house… laying a shelf or bottom draw a shed some place.
Every Birthday my aunt sends me a little calendar … (so don’t judge me) its a very nice sentiment.. To be honest I appreciate the gift, but have little use for it.
but here is the thing, I have all my appointments on my phone… I have tried to use a calendar but it just doesn’t work.
The difference between a gift and a Spiritual gift there always a need and a purpose for your gift… …
Peter says “Use it”.
Put it into practice… You have to start doing it..
In other words move towards your gift… don’t pull away… actively pursue putting that gift to work…

In other words move towards your gift… don’t pull away… actively pursue putting that gift to work…
What often happens in Church is we want someone else to figure out our gift… We are just waiting for the right “opportunity.”
One word that will help in discovering your gift… Volunteer for Something.
Here is the problem… we tend to project onto others ---- Lets say you smile a lot… My first response is - I am wanting to make you a greeter… but .... that not be the way God has wired you
One word that will help in discovering your gift… Volunteer for Something.
Volunteer for Something.
I am wanting to make you a greeter… that not be the way God has wired you One word that will help in discovering your gift… Volunteer for Something.
“It is easier to discover your gift through ministry that to discover your ministry through your gift.”
I don’t mind someone trying a ministry and failing… Do it for a month an its not working out… Because that is part of the discovery
Here are three practical ways.
Through ONGOING MINISTRY
We have around 9 ministries in the church… Over the last few months we had a booth for each ministry..
Why we want you to be aware that we have missions team who meets monthly… ongoing youth program….
Through SHORT-TERM project
Excellent because it has a begining and an End…You are not stuck… Core team facilitator is a short term… 8 weeks and you are done.
Through SPONTANEOUS situations
