God Is Faithful

Introduction: the story is told of a little boy who received a boat for his birthday. . . There are moments God throws things at us not to harm us but to get us closer to Him.
The story of Judah & Jerusalem is like that. It is here in this book we are encouraged to love God wholeheartedly as we learn from the children of Israel whom were exiled because of their disobedience and rejection of God.
Though He punishes Israel by allowing the Babylonians to uproot them, destroy their temple, capture their people and burden them God proves He loves them and His hand is steadily at work in their lives.
Proposition: Because God is Faithful towards us we must display our total commitment and faithfulness towards Him.
Transition: God demonstrates His ever flowing faithfulness in a plethora of moments in our lives but allow me to suggest three things we are afforded because God is faithful.

TRUST GOD (vs.21)

Lamentations 3:21 ESV
But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:
Hope is the anticipation of a favorable outcome under God’s guidance. More specifically, hope is the confidence that what God has done for us in the past guarantees our participation in what God will do in the future.
“I have confidence when I remember this: …” or “I put my trust in it when I remember this:.…”
ILLUS: Job demonstrates this level of confidence in God, in . . . “Though He slay me yet will I trust Him”
Job 13:15 ESV
Though he slay me, I will hope in him; yet I will argue my ways to his face.
Transition: How confident are you in God? Do you trust Him no matter what? When we say we have hope we are suggesting, we trust God without any doubt.
Application: Trust God enough to know that He has it all under control. I don’t know who said it but I heard someone say, “When you can not see God’s hand trust His heart” When it seems hopeless, trust His heart. Place your hope in the fact that God is working for your benefit. His plans may not always be clear but you can always trust Him.
Transition: Hope is not a wish its a lifestyle which says I believe God is able and faithful.

CONSIDER GOD’S MERCY (vs.22b)

Lamentations 3:22b ESV
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;
His Mercy Keeps Us
Jeremiah reminds Judah that their plight was one of doom and justifiably so. But because of the mercy of God they were not annihilated.
We are alive but for the mercy of God. Not because of any great wonders performed by any of us. Nor because of any other act. His mercy has kept us. Let me say that actively, His mercy keeps us. . . I wonder if there is anybody in here right now being kept!?
His Mercy is Renewed
Lamentations 3:23 ESV
they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
New does not refer to something that never existed before, but rather to a fresh renewal of what has been experienced before. God doesn't give us what remains but He gives us more. His mercy does not expire, it continues for those who trust and believe Him.
ILLUS: The story has been told of a mother who sought from Napoleon the pardon of her son. The emperor said it was the man’s second offense, and justice demanded his death. “I don’t ask for justice,” said the mother. “I plead for mercy.”
“But,” said the emperor, “he does not deserve mercy.”
“Sir,” cried the mother, “it would not be mercy if he deserved it, and mercy is all I ask.”
“Well, then,” said the emperor, “I will show mercy.” And her son was saved.
Transition: Isn’t it great that we needn’t beg God for His mercy? His mercy is renewed daily.
Application: Thank God for His Mercy. Consider the mercy God has shown us. Mercy we didn't deserve. He has been merciful in spite of ourselves. Protected us in places we shouldn't have been. Given us things we shouldn't have. My God is merciful. Thank Him for His mercy!!! When the work load seems too much, consider His mercy. You could have been on the outside or dead but His mercy.
Transition: God is our Hope, He is our mercy. God is so faithful and we must honor Him. We must also:

CELEBRATE GOD’S LOVE (vs.22a)

Lamentations 3:22a ESV
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases”(vs.22a)
Compassion- great tender love, It is the picture of a woman who is with child and cherishing it greatly.
God’s love for Judah was a never-ending love.
Jeremiah reminds them that God cherished them even while they were disobedient, even as they were exiled His love endures.
This entire verse may sometimes be translated,, “The LORD has shown kindness and has loved his people faithfully, and he still does” or “… and he has never stopped loving them.”
Truth is, when all others have cast us aside the love of God continues to reach for us. When others forsake us the love of God comforts us. When all others hurt us the Love of God heals us. When others fails us the love of God holds us. His love is everlasting!! His love is unfailing.
Application: consider the unfailing love of God in your life. moments when God has shown you kindness and been faithful. Better yet, consider this, is God faithful to you now. When life seems too tough to handle, remind yourself, God is faithful. When things seem to fall
Conclusion:
God has always been faithful and He has always demonstrated His faithfulness towards us. He demonstrated it towards us through His love out on Calvary. . .
Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.
Refrain:
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me! This I know,
As He loved so long ago,
Taking children on His knee,
Saying, “Let them come to Me.”
Jesus loves me still today,
Walking with me on my way,
Wanting as a friend to give
Light and love to all who live.
Jesus loves me! He who died
Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.
Jesus loves me! He will stay
Close beside me all the way;
Thou hast bled and died for me,
I will henceforth live for Thee.

I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore,
Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more,
But the Master of the sea, heard my despairing cry,
From the waters lifted me, now safe am I.
Refrain
Love lifted me! Love lifted me!
When nothing else could help
Love lifted me!
All my heart to Him I give, ever to Him I’ll cling
In His blessèd presence live, ever His praises sing,
Love so mighty and so true, merits my soul’s best songs,
Faithful, loving service too, to Him belongs.
Refrain
Souls in danger look above, Jesus completely saves,
He will lift you by His love, out of the angry waves.
He’s the Master of the sea, billows His will obey,
He your Savior wants to be, be saved today.
Refrain
