Introduction

What a joy it is to see all these Mothers here today.
It is indeed a special day and we want to wish all of our Mothers a blessed day.
Truly, one day a year to recognize and praise your worth truly isn't enough. I believe that, we can praise our wives and mothers everyday, and we should praise them.
And men, today I hope you will let your wives go sit down after church, i hope you can take to the kitchen and prepare them a wonderful meal, that you will load and run the dishwasher and then… take a moment and tell her how much you love her!
Now this morning, I want to share with you a few thoughts, a short message on the value, blessing and worth of a mother.
So I hope you brought your Bible today.
Your Bible is the most important item, the most precious of all your possessions...
So lets begin....

1. A Biblical Command to Honor our Mothers

1. A Biblical Command to Honor our Mothers

Our first choice of the biblical text...
Exodus 20:12 ESV
“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
The 5th command listed in the ten commandments that God gave to Moses on the mountain of God, is one which speaks to the relationship of children and parents.
God commands that Parents be honored… and one of course is our Mother.
Now the biblical command to honor our mothers and fathers has a special point to it.
You see God has placed our mothers over us as a practical point for life. Mothers are a foundation for our life, they are meant to teach us and lead us along with the help of our fathers to God himself.
The honor that God gives us speaks to respect, to reference of this special person in our life..
Yet, our mothers, they point us to the one who created them and has intrusted in their life, the blessing of bearing, holding, loving, supporting and preparing their children for the same task God will entrust to their heart.
God did a special thing when he brought the first Mother into the world, for without the first mother, Eve.... our mothers would not be hear as well.
Our command is to honor them.... that we might be entrusted with a long life as well.
Mothers we are so thankful for you. I pray we never break the Lord’s command and fail to honor you and express our thankfulness for you daily.
And let me share this second thought with you.

2. The Blessing of a Mother is Seen in Her Faith

The blessing of a godly mother is seen in her faith, for she models it to her children, to her family all the time...
This truth is one of the greatest traits I have had the joy of witnessing in the lives of our mothers, I have the joy of seeing in my wife, and I see it in many of you.
Let me share this passage with you.
2 Timothy 1:5–7 ESV
I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
In this epistle of 2nd Timothy, we find the Apostle Paul writing to this young Preacher, a child in the faith to Paul.
And here is the beauty of this passage, Paul commends the faith that young Timothy possessed...
But where did his faith have its start.
Timothy’s faith was seen in the blessing of the godly women in his life. and without them, things might have been different.
But see God raised up a mother.
It began with a mother by the name of Lois. God raised here up and prepared her for a future day..
In the city of Lystra, and 16 we find Paul and Barnabas there in the city and Lois is one of his first converts to the faith… But it didn’t stop with this mother.
The faith she exhibited was also seen in her daughter, Eunice.
Those godly mothers had faith their faith made a lasting in Paul is life, and Paul knew Timothy possessed that same faith as well.
But let me point this out, Paul calls this mothers faith a sincere faith...
The word “sincere” in the Greek means “un-hypocritical” i love this, there was nothing false, nothing impure, nothing wrong… her faith was right.
Mothers you have a godly opportunity and blessing to share your faith in the lives of those children and grandchildren. And they are blessed because of you.
Mothers you have a godly opportunity and blessing to share your faith in the lives of those children and grandchildren. And they are blessed because of you.
Let me tell you mothers, if this world had more like you, women of sincere faith I believe our world would be better, our world would be more solid and our world would be more biblical.
Yet then mothers have no faith, or a weak faith, we find they create a downfall for their children, grandchildren and families...
Mothers i am thankful because you are women of faith.
We need more like you!!
And then a 3rd thought comes to mind...
And then a 3rd thought comes to mind...

3. The blessing of a Mother is seen in her Character...

Character is seen in the actions, the intent of her heart and hands of our mothers. And one of the best places to see the characteristics of a godly mother is in
is a large passage, one that I am going to let you read for yourself here or later today.
But I want to pull out a few passages from this great section and show you the character of a godly woman.
First let me share with you her blessings to her husband...
Proverbs 31:10–12 ESV
An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.
Proverbs 10
A excellent wife Solomon shares is one who places care in all she does for her husband.
Now if anyone might now the meaning of a wife, it think it would be Solomon, ..man, he had so many.
But what characteristics does he mention… Solomon says a mother, a wife is a a good help mate,
Her value he says.... more precious than fine jewels… she has the home, the family as important and as such, she benefits it with all her actions.. She blesses her husband, and what is the outcome...
Her husband trusts her..... because of these fine characteristic.
Another characteristic Solomon share is her tireless efforts.... That is the blessing of a mother, she does so much for others and at times she receives little in return… But her nature pushes her forward.
Solomon says....
Proverbs 31:15–16 ESV
She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens. She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
I think of the times my wife has labored to produce for our family, how she worked hard and at times, many different shifts, sacrificing for our good.
I think of the times my wife has labored to produce for our family, how she worked hard and at times, many different shifts, sacrificing for our good.
And when she got in, she took care of our needs and honestly, I am blessed, our children are blessed because of her...
And like my wife, you mothers here today have gone and given even after you were already tired and wore out. A godly woman labors for her family to help those she loves.
and here in our text, you see Solomon saying a godly woman does much for her family.
And then...
Provers
Solomon says a godly mother has a character to match her faith.
Proverbs 31:25–26 ESV
Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
Now listen to what Solomon says here...
Strength and Dignity are great words here to examine.
Strength is a term that refers to her physical and moral qualities. She is a strong woman, in every sense of the word. A godly woman is strong, physically , morally and spiritually.
Dignity refers to her esteem, that quality which others respect....
Solomon says this type of Woman that has a strong character in regard to her life, her actions for others...
Next....
Solomon says from her mouth and heart comes wisdom and kindness. The word wisdom refers to loving instruction and the word kindness speaks to what is pleasing and gracious.
So from the life of a godly woman, a devout woman one will see loving, pleasing instruction, that will be a sign of this persons life.
But one last point form this passage is verse 28...
Proverbs 31:30 ESV
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Proverbs 31:29 ESV
“Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.”
Proverbs 31:28 ESV
Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:
Proverbs 31:31
Proverbs 31:31 ESV
Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.
The greatest mark of a godly woman is the reception she has in the eyes of her children and husband.
At the end of her days, her actions, her words and deeds, her prayers, her influence and yes her own love speaks to the person she is and whose she is..
And being a woman of God, her children and husband honor her...
They declare her worth in their speech for all to hear.
She is special in many ways and because of many things!
Mothers we are so thankful for you today, we honor you and we thank the Lord for blessing our lives with your presence.
God bless you!
They serve as a foundation,
and today
