Review Last Weeks Message
Tonight I want to address the issue of Moralistic Therapeutic Deism.
What is MTD?
“A god exists who created and ordered the world and watches over human life on earth.”
1. “A god exists who created and ordered the world and watches over human life on earth.” 2. “God wants people to be good, nice, and fair to each other, as taught in the Bible and by most world religions.”
3. “The central goal of life is to be happy and to feel good about ones self.” 4. “God does not need to be particularly involved in one’s life except when God is needed to resolve a problem.” 5. “Good people go to heaven when they die.”
“God wants people to be good, nice, and fair to each other, as taught in the Bible and by most world religions.”
“The central goal of life is to be happy and to feel good about ones self.”
“God does not need to be particularly involved in one’s life except when God is needed to resolve a problem.”
“Good people go to heaven when they die.”
Whether we all believe these explicit statements or not, our lives show that we side with them.
We might not say our end goal is to be happy and to feel good about ourselves, but when we seek God we seek elf-assurance and confidence.
We might not say that God doesn’t need to be involved in our lives except in times of need, yet we go weeks if not months without praying or reading the Bible until we run into an issue.
God is not the very center of our lives.
We may not say only good people will go to heaven, but we will deny truth in the pursuit of peace
We are not comfortable with discerning.
If standing by truth means a loss of peace, we will deny truth.
