THE SINCERE FAITH OF A MOTHER
2 TIMOTHY
AIM
To teach how the sincere faith of a mother can have a tremendous influence by sharing the gospel and leading her children to believe in the Lord and be saved.
INTRODUCTION
In the beginning of his letter to Timothy, Paul wrote about his thankfulness to the God he served.
He was thankful for having a clear conscience, probably because of his faithfulness, without fear or failure, to share the gospel with those who were lost and in desperate need of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
Without a doubt, Paul was a great example for Timothy and others who surrendered to preach during his ministry for the Lord.
Paul was also faithful to pray night and day for God’s young preacher.
Paul remembered how Timothy’s eyes were filled with tears when they were together and how he longed to see Timothy so his heart would be filled with joy.
After sharing these kind words, Paul began to share with Timothy a great testimony about the faith and spiritual life of his mother.
The most notable memory Paul recognized was the sincere faith of a mother.
THE REMEMBRANCE OF THE SINCERE FAITH OF A MOTHER
1 Timothy 1:
2 Timothy 1:3
It is easy to see the importance of Christian mothers in the home.
First, we learn Eunice’s mother, Timothy’s grandmother, had placed her faith in Jesus as her Savior.
Without a doubt, Lois was a great mother and a good example to her daughter.
It is pretty obvious, Lois lived her faith in front of her daughter and shared her faith with her daughter.
I can’t help but believe she was faithful to the Lord and loyal to His church.
She gave her daughter an example of what it means to be a Christian mother.
Second, we learn Eunice believed the gospel and placed her faith in Jesus for salvation.
She had learned how to be a good Christian mother from her own mother.
It is extremely important for mothers to teach their children sound principles from God’s Word, but it is also important to live out those principles in every day life.
Our example speaks much louder than our words.
Third, we learn Timothy believed the gospel and placed his faith in Jesus.
He learned about Jesus and how to live for Him from his mother and grandmother.
It is important at this point to say, salvation is a personal and an individual experience.
Though true faith cannot be inherited, it can be demonstrated in convincing ways within the context of a family.
Even so, each person must entrust himself personally to Jesus Christ.
True faith is individually claimed.
God needs more mothers who will live their lives and share their faith with their children and grandchildren.
We need more modern day testimonies about the remembrance of the sincere faith of a mother.
THE REACH OF THE SINCERE FAITH OF A MOTHER
I am not sure we really understand the reach of a mother in relation to her children.
I would like to believe most of us, regardless of age, are still experiencing the influence of our mothers in our everyday lives.
There are many days when I think about things my mother taught me verbally and by her example.
My mother never had the privilege of getting a good education in school, but she was a student of God’s Word and an example of great faith in the promises of God and His power to fulfill them.
Timothy’s mother was a Jewish woman and his father was a Greek.
The Bible teaches Timothy’s mother was a believer, but never mentions the same about his father.
Act
The sincere faith of Timothy’s mother was lived out before him during his childhood.
Learning the Word of God in His home laid the foundation for him to be believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation.

2
Charles Stanley reminded me of a mother one of our Clear Creek Baptist Bible College professors told us about many years ago.
Susanna Wesley was the mother’s name.
“Susanna Wesley didn’t have a high-ranking title at a large company, but she raised 19 children, including two sons—John and Charles Wesley—who were the founders of Methodism.
Despite the demands of a large family, she committed herself to spending a full hour with each child once a week.
She taught them theology, and through her example, they learned to love and trust God.”
God needs more mothers who will invest time teaching God’s Word to their children and grandchildren.
The reach of the sincere faith of a mother will continue to touch her children and grandchildren throughout their adult lives and for many years after she has been in heaven with Jesus.
THE RESULTS OF THE SINCERE FAITH OF A MOTHER
All of us are looking for and expecting positive results in the lives of our children.
Men, we should never underestimate the impact our wives make on our children.
There is a bond between a mother and child which is beyond our ability to understand.
We should appreciate our wives and the work they have done and are doing with our children, especially as it relates to helping them learn about Jesus and His purpose for their lives.
A mother should be in a constant state of spiritual revival.
My sister and I witnessed the constant spiritual fervor of our mother throughout most of our lives, including and especially, the last days of her life.
Only eternity will reveal the results of the sincere faith of a mother.
Perhaps Paul’s words of encouragement and the examples of Lois and Eunice inspired Timothy to seek the Lord to to use the spiritual gifts he had received from the Lord, and anoint his ministry for Jesus.
The memory of the sincere faith of Timothy’s mother and grandmother gave him an incentive to
CONCLUSION
The results of the sincere faith of Timothy’s mother and grandmother gave him an incentive to fan “the gift of God” into flames so he could be on fire for Jesus.
CONCLUSION
Charles Stanley wrote, “If you’re a mom, you have tremendous influence in the lives of your children.
There’s no way to know how God will use them in the future.
But whatever His plans may be, you can equip your sons and daughters by determining to spend time with them each day, reading and teaching them God’s Word.
But perhaps the greatest impact you have on your children is your example.
When they see you modeling godly character or trusting the Lord in the midst of trials, they will want to know and love God as you do.
And that is the best way you can equip the next generation.”
APPLICATION
Moms, what kind of legacy are you leaving for your children?
Will others look back and remember the sincere faith you had while raising your children?
Moms, are you doing everything you can to point your children in the right direction and especially point them to Jesus?
Are you spending time reading God’s Word and Bible stories to your children?
Moms, are you praying and expecting positive results for your children?
Husbands, are you praying for your wives and encouraging them while they are investing their time in your children?
