Intro:
Summer is quickly approaching!
It’s the time for travel.
Time for going places.
It’s time for doing new things.
Time for doing new things.
You’ve been stuck in school and now it’s getting close to that time to just…GO!
Exciting right?
Sometimes nav
Have you ever just gotten bored and went?
You didn’t know where, you just started going.
I had no plan, no direction, just the desire to move from where I was.
I’ve made it to interesting new stores or I’d never go to otherwise.
Guard your heart
Guard your heart
Protect what’s coming in.
That's a pretty big deal.
I have to make sure whenever I have something to drink that I keep it out of his reach.
If not, he will grab it and take a swig.
Not always a problem.
As you guys know, I have kids.
They’re awesome.
I love them.
They’re amazing and they enrich my life.
That being said, they get into everything!
My wife can attest to that!
They do.
I have to make sure and keep an eye on things.
Especially with Noah right now.
He gets into everything!
Especially drinks.
I have to make sure whenever I have something to drink that I keep it out of his reach.
If not, he will grab it and take a swig.
Not always a problem.
You don’t want to take in something that’s dirty.
We do though.
We enjoy it.
We want to do it.
We do that all the time.
Music, movies, conversation, jokes, Social Media.
I have to make sure whenever I have something to drink that I keep it out of his reach.
If not, he will grab it and take a swig.
Not always a problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to listen to the music my siblings did.
I really liked rap.
That’s especially what my brother was into.
I remember recording on of his tapes.
It was a group called Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.
It was their very first album.
I can still sing the chorus of their first single.
The album was filled with really bad language, violent topics, sex.
Not really good for anyone to listen to, especially a fourth grader.
Consequently, I found myself sneaking into my bedroom with headphones to listen.
OR outside in the back yard.
I would hide the tape when I wasn’t using it.
I knew it wasn’t good.
I kept doing it anyway.
Consequently, I had a pretty nasty mouth on me at that age because I heard that music and thought that made me tough and cool.
I wasn’t so tough I’d use around my parents though.
I would have been backhanded.
Anyone ever find themselves in that situation where you were letting stuff in that you knew you shouldn’t have been?
Anyone willing to share?
What happened with you?
Why guard our hearts?
It affects what comes out.
Preparing food.
Break eggs.
Careful to get no shell.
Leave shell in you have crunch, grit and bad taste.
Don’t want that.
That’s what happens when you put something in that you’re not supposed to.
The product isn’t good.
This same thing happens spiritually.
The verse says what goes in, does in fact come out.
Have you ever seen this in your life?
What are some examples.
As you guys know, it’s I have kids.
They’re awesome.
I love them.
They’re amazing and they enrich my life.
That being said, they get into everything!
My wife can attest to that!

When I was in the beginnings of my teaching career I came into contact with someone.
They were a great teacher.
Really nice person.
They were also very cynical.
We’d be at a football game and they’d only see all the bad the head director was doing.
We’d be at rehearsal, they’d focus on all of the negative.
I was listening to all of it.
I buying into all of it.
I was just taking it all in.
Pretty soon, I started to be the same way.
