I. The Command ()

Proverbs 6:20–21 NASB95
20 My son, observe the commandment of your father And do not forsake the teaching of your mother; 21 Bind them continually on your heart; Tie them around your neck.
A. (Slide) The object
(Slide) The Fathers command - in generations past the bible was a center of many families, the Father would read, tell you God’s Word. The hope was that you would go from your Fathers Bible and His teaching the commands of the Bible to your heart where you can apply God’s Word.
(slide) The mother’s law - for the most part the mother was the person who daily took care of you, gave you the law of the land in the household and helped you to learn to adhere to the fathers commands. Both your earthly father and your Heavenly Father.
(Slide) The Mothers Law - your mom cared for you daily, making sure your needs were met, she gave you instruction the law of the land in the household and it was best to adhere to a mothers teaching. - Remember in Proverbs wisdom is referred to in feminine form. So it is wise to listen to the wise teaching and follow the commands of the father.
B. (Slide) Application of the command
Keep (adhere to closely and earnestly)
Forsake not (The warning)
Bind (the thing to do)
Tie (the way to do it)
Now there is too much to just gloss over this so let’s spend a little time on the application of the command.

Proverbs 6:24 NASB95
24 To keep you from the evil woman, From the smooth tongue of the adulteress.
(Slide) It will keep you from evil
It will keep you from specific evil
(Slide) Keep you from evil in general - this would if filled with evil, evil being defined as against God. (if you are not for Him you are against Him)
(Slide) Keep you from specific evil - in this scripture it is speaking of the adulterous woman, but . . .
Can’t the adulterous woman be anything that detours you, distracts you, derails, discourages you in your walk with Christ?
The Word will remind you of who you were and who you are in Christ. Who God is and what He did for you in sending the Son. What the Son did so that you could be in Christ (in Him).
