Introduction:
(verses 1-5) and (verses 6-13) are spoken in variation in this Psalm
We fix our hearts upon God
VERSE 1
Praise with song - I will sing
Praise is an offering - give
Praise with excellence - with my glory
Praise with musical instruments - lute and harp
Praise before the day begins - awaken the dawn
I myself will awake early. I will call up the dawn. The best and brightest hours of the day shall find me heartily aroused to bless my God. Some singers had need to awake, for they sing in drawling tones, as if they were half asleep; the tune drags wearily along, there is no feeling or sentiment in the singing, but the listener hears only a dull mechanical sound, as if the choir ground out the notes from a worn out barrel organ. Oh, choristers, wake up, for this is not a work for dreamers, but such as requires your best powers in their liveliest condition. In all worship this should be the personal resolve of each worshipper: "I myself will awake." Charles Spurgeon
Praise shared with others - verse 3
Sing about the Lord wherever you travel
Praise for His mercy and truth - verse 4
Praise that exalts God and His glory - verse 5

Psalm 108:36-37
Psalm 78:36–37 NKJV
Nevertheless they flattered Him with their mouth, And they lied to Him with their tongue; For their heart was not steadfast with Him, Nor were they faithful in His covenant.
Matthew 6:24 NKJV
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
We ask for God to be honored in meeting our need
VERSE 2
He desires God to be exalted above all - verse 5
He requests to be rescued based upon His relationship with God - verse 6
Praise with musical instruments before the dawn
We rejoice in God’s word
VERSE 3
God has spoken
None shall stand against Him
We move forward to victory
The strong cities have no defense against our God
Only our lack of faith can defeat us
Man is no help
God will give us the courage to go forth with Him
