5Don’t we have the right to travel accompanied by our believing wives and be supported as a couple, as do the other apostles, such as Peter the Rock and the Lord’s brothers?e 6Of course we do!f Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to stop working for a living?g

4 And God saw that the light was good.
And God separated the light from the darkness.
5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.
And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
6 And God said, d“Let there be an expanse1 in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.”
7 And God made2 the expanse and eseparated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were fabove the expanse.
And it was so.
8 And God called the expanse Heaven.3
And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.

We remember that Simon was his given name at birth; Peter was the special name given to him by Jesus, to call this man to “rock-like” thinking and behavior.

Some have said that Peter didn’t write this letter because the subject and style is somewhat different than 1 Peter.
Yet the purpose of the two letters is quite different.
1 Peter was written to encourage Christians under the threat of violent persecution; 2 Peter was written to warn those same believers of the danger of false teachers and harmful influences.

And it was so. 10 God called the dry land Earth,4 and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas.
