Pr 5. Tony van Drimmelen. The paths of our lives are greatly determined by the multitude of choices we make every day. Proverbs gives us the wisdom to make every-day choices based on the harsh reality of living in a world broken by sin. It is not a compilation of pithy sayings, commands or promises designed to bring us success. Instead, Proverbs speaks of the way things are ordered by God in creation. Because of the Gospel we are the beginnings of a new creation in this world (2 Cor 5:17). When Christians read Proverbs in the light of the Gospel the right path emerges as a heartfelt response to everything God has done for us in Jesus. The Gospel brings on the necessary life transforming power to embrace Proverbs until Jesus makes all things new.
