Vision 2017: Let

Wounded & Bruised

Romans 6:23

Introduction: Romans 6:23For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. NKJV

Romans 6:23For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God [that is, His remarkable, overwhelming gift of grace to believers] is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amplified Bible

I. Saved & Right with God

A. Romans 3:25bPeople are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. NLT

a. Jesus crucified is the “votive gift” rather the concecrated offering fulfilling a vow from the Father for the salvation of man.

b. "Jesus, by His death (by His blood) was a propitiation (substitute sacrifice) for us. As He was judged in our place, the Father could demonstrate His righteousness in judgment against sin, while sparing those who deserved the judgment." -David Guzik

c. God in His forebearance had “passed over” the sins of the past but at the cross of Christ no longer were they passed over, they are paid for.

B. Everyone should want to be saved!

a. For those of us who have been born again, saved it is difficult to comprehend why everyone is not saved!

b. John 3:16-17, Romans 5:8

(BIBLE)

II. Why Jesus Came

Remember the application: God is ready to forgive my every sin.

A. The Condition of Man

a. Romans 3:23 All have sinned - Short of God's glory

1. All is inclusive, it does not exclude anyone of any rank, status or appeal.

2. Romans 3:22We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. 23For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. NLT

b. Short of God's Glory - to be left behind in the race and so fail to reach the goal, to fall short of the end

B. The Severity of Sin

a. Sin is not to be taken lightly. It should not be scoffed at or ignored.

b. God gave the Ten Commandments to reveal shortcomings, revealing your inability to accomplish salvation on your own.

James 2:10For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. NKJV

1. James 1:23-25 says the Word is like a mirror to see who you really are.

2. Jesus goes deeper than Moses saying "Do not commit adultery… Do not murder {Jesus said do not be angry} (Matthew 5:21-30)

C. The Battle 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (BIBLE)

a. First of all, you are not to fight this battle alone. It is a spiritual battle & is to be fought spiritually. – On your knees, with the Holy Ghost & the Word of God –

b. This casting down is to demolish & destroy imaginations, reasonings which are hostile to the Christian faith.

c. That “high thing” that exalts itself against the Knowledge of God – Moral wisdom seen in right living.

III. Wounded & Bruised

A. Isaiah 53:5 (BIBLE)

a. Wounded open for all to see, the actual act of sin – Your transgression

b. Bruised under the skin, hidden, the thought of sin– Your Iniquity

B. Jesus died for it all. Every sin. Those done openly as well as those secret sins.

C. The reason we can believe this is because of the resurrection of Christ.

- He asks us to:

* Repent

* Live by Faith

* Be Baptized

* Be Filled with His Spirit

Conclusion: PRESENT THE GOSPEL FOR SALVATION – EVERY WEEK – AND THE NEED TO COME FORWARD IN PUBLIC ACCEPTANCE OF CHRIST
