Introduction
We are going to be looking into God’s Word for help in wisdom in raising up our children in the right and best way. Our time together is not about quick fixes to make our personal lives as parents more convenient or less embarrassing due to misbehavior in public. It is not about making things easier, which it can, but it’s about making things more fruitful in our lives and our children’s lives. We want fruitfulness over convenience. Recognize that good fruit takes time and effort. As parents we need to be willing to sacrifice that which is convenient and easy for that which is fruitful. Again, remember this study is not about convenience and quick fixes, but fruitfulness.
Recognize that good fruit takes time and effort. As parents we need to be willing to sacrifice that which is convenient and easy for that which is fruitful.

How do we know God’s way?

We are instructed by God’s Word ( NKJV)
2 Timothy 3:16–17 NKJV
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
By Faith We are Empowered by God’s Word ( NKJV)
2 tim 3:1
1 Thessalonians 2:13 NKJV
For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.
We are Blessed by God’s Word ( NKJV)
James 1:25 NKJV
But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

God’s Heart for Us (The Big Picture)

God’s Heart for Us (The Big Picture)

Understanding God’s Heart and Purpose can help us persevere in parenting God’s way.
1. To Fellowship (; NKJV )
John 17:3 NKJV
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
Exodus 19:4–5 NKJV
‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.
2. Co-Labor ( NKJV)
Genesis 2:19 NKJV
Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.
3. Godly Offspring to Fulfill the Longing for Fellowship (; NKJV )
Genesis 18:17–19 NKJV
17 And the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing, 18 since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.”
Malachi 2:15 NKJV
15 But did He not make them one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. “Therefore take heed to your spirit, And let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth.
4. His Love is Deep for Children ( NKJV)
Matthew 10:13–16 NKJV
13 If the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. 15 Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city! 16 “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
Mark 10:13–16 NKJV
13 Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. 15 Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” 16 And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.

God’s Call

God’s Call is Unique (; NKJV)
Psalm 139:14–16 NKJV
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.
ps 139 14-16

God’s Call

Ephesians 2:10 NKJV
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
The Greatest Blessing is in Fulfilling Our Call ( NKJV)
God’s Command
We need to recognize it for ourselves, but as we will see we are not only responsible for fulfilling our “calling” but also responsible to prepare our children to fulfill theirs.
Acts 20:35 NKJV
35 I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

God’s Command

The purpose of this “class” is to learn the “how” of fulfilling God’s commands.
Teach them diligently, frequently, and continually ( NKJV)
We can’t teach what we don’t know.
God’s Command
Teach them intimately to uniquely fulfill their purpose
Deuteronomy 6:1–9 NKJV
1 “Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, 2 that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. 3 Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’ 4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Teach them ans set them apart with intimate instruction and example ( NKJV)
Proverbs 22:6 NKJV
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

Hannah’s Heart (, ; ; )
She was desperate to have a child and committed to raising him up in the way he should go
1 sam 1
1 Samuel 1:10–18 NKJV
And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish. Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.” And it happened, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli watched her mouth. Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk. So Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!” But Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord. Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now.” Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him.” And she said, “Let your maidservant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
Samuel was an answer to prayer who changed a nation
1 Samuel 3:1 NKJV
Now the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation.
1 Samuel 4:19–22 NKJV
Now his daughter-in-law, Phinehas’ wife, was with child, due to be delivered; and when she heard the news that the ark of God was captured, and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and gave birth, for her labor pains came upon her. And about the time of her death the women who stood by her said to her, “Do not fear, for you have borne a son.” But she did not answer, nor did she regard it. Then she named the child Ichabod, saying, “The glory has departed from Israel!” because the ark of God had been captured and because of her father-in-law and her husband. And she said, “The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured.”

Will you be desperate to have children who know God and make Him known? He answers the cry of the desperate. What is your need as a parent? What is your desire as a parent? Will you cry out to God about it and commit to teaching your children diligently and training them intimately?
