Easter Eggs on Easter Sunday

Morning team! How are we all this morning?
Today is very special day - who can tell me what day it is today?
That’s right it is Easter Sunday!
Hands up who’s got any chocolate eggs this morning?
[Ask a few people how many eggs they got]
The only egg I got today was this tiny little one [look sad]
The
And it isn’t even made out of chocolate [look even sadder]
One of our chicken’s laid it for us - Ninja, I think...
Anyway, it is the only egg I’ll be getting for Easter this year. [pretend to cry]
Now, hands up how many of you got an Easter egg that had something inside it?
They’re the best kind aren’t they?
[Ask a few people what they had inside]
Say, do you think their might be some chocolate inside this egg?
What do you think?
Shall we find out!
Maybe one of the older children would like to help me crack this bad boy open?
[Crack it open into a glass bowl]
Huh! The egg is empty - no wait there’s a bit of paper here...
What does it say? [Get someone to read it out - ]
Shall we see what it says? :
Matthew 28:1–9 NLT
Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.” The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel’s message. And as they went, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they ran to him, grasped his feet, and worshiped him.

Easter Is Good News!

Now, remember my egg?
How do you feel when it was cracked open and the little piece of paper fell out? [Surprised/shocked]
What did you think would be inside? [egg yoke]
How do you think Mary and her friend felt when they found out that Jesus tomb was empty? [Surprised/shocked]
Yeah they were shocked and surprised, because no one was expecting Jesus to come back from the dead, even though he said that he would!
And it is a ogod thing he did too, not because you wou;dn’t get any chocolate eggs if he didn’t,
But because Jesus return to life is part of what what makes Christianity ‘Good News’!
Old Story New Week 39: The Resurrection

The resurrection is one of the most important parts of the gospel story. The apostle Paul said the resurrection is so important that if Jesus were not raised then our preaching is worthless, our faith is no good, and we are still in our sins (1 Corinthians 15:13–17). By rising from the dead, Jesus proved that everything he taught was true and won the greatest victory of all time. Jesus won the battle against sin and death by dying for our sin and then rising from the dead. Now all those who believe in Jesus will one day be raised from the dead too and live forever with the Lord in heaven.

It is one of the most important parts of the gospel story!
Years later, the apostle Paul said the Jesus return to life is so important
that if Jesus were not raised then everything I’m teaching you write now is worthless,
our faith is no good,
and we are still in our sins.
But Jesus did come back to life and was seen by over five hundred people!
And by rising from the dead,
Jesus proved that everything he said was true,
and that he did win the battle against sin and death by dying for our sin and then rising from the dead.
And now all those who believe in Jesus will one day be raised from the dead too and live forever with him in the New Heavens and the New Earth forever!
Now that is good news!
[Pray to end, then give out eggs]
