We can’t be what God wants us to be on our own.
If you summarized Romans 8.1-8 this is what you would come away with: None of us can be what God wants us to be in our own right, because of sin and the flesh.
Verse 8 summarizes this
This can be a great source of frustration if we misunderstand what Christianity is:
If you think Christianity is about keeping the rules, you can white knuckle it for a while, and then fall back into the same sinful patterns.
But that is not what Christianity really is.
This can be a great source of frustration if we misappropriate what Christianity is:
Reading at the end of Romans 7 you see a frustrated attitude where Paul says… the stuff I don’t want to do, I do… the stuff I am supposed to do, I don’t
And his answer to that question is Jesus.

A large minority of the clergy are now saying that the resurrection of Jesus is not essential to Christianity.
BUT THE BIBLE DECLARES CHRISTIANITY AND THE RESURRECTION LINKED SO YOU CAN’T HAVE ONE WITHOUT THE OTHER.
The Holy Spirit gives us life now.
If Paul said in Phil 3.10 that his goal was to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings being made conformed to his death, then it is wrong minded on our parts to think that becoming a Christian is something we check off and then move on to the next thing.
If your read through Romans 8 you will see many ways the same power that rose Jesus from the grave lives in us.
We aren’t condemned any longer.
