King Jesus
Background
Jesus had been traveling toward Jerusalem for the Passover
The crowd had attempted to crown Him King He fled.
Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.
The Pharisees wanted to kill Lazarus.
They start to plot to Kill Jesus
A great number of pilgrims were also arriving in Jerusalem for the Passover
The Messiah had been promised and the Jews were waiting for Him
When they saw the miracles and works of Jesus they worship in a prophetic way!
Declaring the promise of the Messiah fulfilled.
The Jews were expecting a King who would be greater than David.
Their expectation was that this King would restore their nation back to them and bring back the good old days.
They had no real clue as to their real condition or need.
Yet they worshiped Jesus and established Him as their king (at least in their hearts)
The priests and scribes attempted to silence them, but they were bold and would not be silenced.
- Jesus wants to be our king but not the way we want Him to be!
The Jews wanted Him to save them now!
Hosanna!
They blessed the NOW Saviour but a week later they condemned Him to death.
Their idea of salvation was that Jesus would deliver them from the Romans and give them back their land and become their king in Jerusalem.
The tension is that we have determined in our hearts what we want King Jesus to be and to do.
Jesus came ridding on a donkey...
Most kings would come on a horse or an animal of strength and speed used in battle.
But Jesus came as an animal of burden.
Jesus came to carry our burdens!
To lift the weight and bring us peace!
Humility doesn’t mean you lose it means you win without the need of force!
Jesus was entering Jerusalem victoriously but not with the same “victory” as the people were hoping for.
The victory over our true enemies… Sin and Death.
Now we no longer need to live under the weight of our sins and we can receive eternal life!
Jesus first laid down His cloak to serve us!
He became our burden bearer.
The Victory is His!
He is triumphant and has won!
We should celebrate Him and extol His name forever more!
Hosanna - Please Lord, Please Save us! Please Lord, give us success!
Who is this?
Jesus caused quite an uproar in the city!
They new His name and where He came from but didn’t know Him!
Jesus is zealous for His people.
So He goes to the temple the place of connection between God and man and remove the “thieves” Making a profit and a business off God’s meeting place.
Jesus said His temple will be called a house of prayer!
Jesus establishes the purpose of the House and then uses it!
Jesus heals in His house!
The religious ones are about to lose it!
The leading priests and teachers and were indignant.!
A religious spirit is arrogant and does not consider acceptable anything it can’t control.
The worship bothered them, they wanted it to stop!
The enemy wants to stop you from worshiping God!
“Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have perfected praise”
Conclusion
The promise of the anointed saviour has been fulfilled.
We have salvation, no longer orphans
He is here and will finish the work He started in us.
The finished work wont be what we thought it would be.
Jesus has established His church and uses her the way He wants to.
There are many wanting to keep you from worshiping don’t give in.
We are to worship like babes and infants, with pure joy.
Hosanna, Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord.
