INTRODUCTION:
1. Continuing last week’s introduction to the Armor of God...
A. We are going to be looking at over the next few weeks.

There are four lessons we need to remember from before we get to the individual pieces of the Armor of God.
A. We need to be strong in the Lord.
1.
As Christians, it is our responsibility to be Godly leaders the world can follow.

2. The church needs strong leaders (Elders) who can lead them into the promise land.
3. The church needs strong members to inspire people to follow God.

Where is this strength to come from?
5. How are we strengthened by the Lord?
B. , We need the whole Armor of God in order to stand.

This is where we will start the lesson today but first, let’s finish remembering the rest of the lessons.
C. We need to realize that the Armor does not protect us from flesh and blood.
D. We need to do all that we can to stand.
BODY:
1. , WE NEED THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD IN ORDER TO STAND.
A. In order to be able to stand against the devil, the whole Armor is needed.
1.
A good knight never went into battle without part of his armor, because he knew that if he did, he would be weak and not able to protect that part of him.
A. His enemies would attack in the weakest part of the armor so if part of his armor was missing, that is were the enemy would attack first.

The devil is the same way; he attacks like a lion.
B. This is how the devil attacked Jesus.
1 Pt 5.8
1. Jesus fasted for forty days and forty nights, and the Bible says that He was hungry.

Then, after Jesus had fasted, the devil began to tempt Him; the first thing the devil tried was to get Him to turn stones into bread.

3. Jesus’ reply would show that His Armor was not weak in that area and the devil’s arrows just bounced off His Armor, doing no damage.
A. Jesus knew a simple concept shown in this verse, which is: physical food is not as important as spiritual food, and this is what God had said in thus, Jesus’ Armor held strong.
4. The devil would not give up that easily; he would try a different part of the Armor and shoot an arrow at Jesus, getting the same results.
5. Once again, Jesus would rely on His Armor for protection.

A. Jesus knew a simple concept which is shown in His reply to the devil—God had said to not tempt Him; therefore, Jesus simply obeyed and told the devil what God had said.

The devil would still not give up, until he had tested the whole Armor to make sure there were no weaknesses in it.
7. Jesus would show that, when used properly, the Armor of God has no weaknesses or flaws because once again, the devil’s arrows would just bounce right off.

A. Jesus showed an important concept that we all need in our lives—God is the only one who is to be worshiped!

The devil finally gave up, because he had tested the whole Armor and there were no vulnerabilities.

B. The devil tempted Jesus in every way that he could.

The devil can only tempt us in one of three ways.
1 John 2.15-
2.
He tempted Jesus in all three ways but Jesus’ Armor held.
A. He tempted Jesus with the lust of the flesh when the devil told Him to turn the stones to bread.
Matt 4.
1. Jesus had fasted for forty days and forty nights; His flesh would have been hungry, showing Him to be a man able to be tempted in this way.
A. Jesus did not use the fact that He was God to not sin when tempted by the devil, because God cannot be tempted.
B. The devil tempted Jesus with the pride of life when he said, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down.”

C. The devil tempted Jesus with the lust of the eyes when he showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory and then said, ‘Bow down and worship me and I will give them to You.’

3. When the devil fled after tempting Jesus in these three ways and Jesus was able to stand against the devil’s arrows, it showed that Jesus had the whole Armor of God on, because this is the only way the Bible says one can stand against the devil.
Eph 6.
A. Jesus was God, but He did not use His Godhood to stand against the devil because God cannot be tempted.
According to , Jesus was tempted; therefore, Jesus did not stand against the devil because He was God but because He donned the whole Armor of God.

Notice that the devil did not flee until he had tested the whole armor; therefore, putting on the whole Armor of God is submitting to God and resisting the devil so that he will flee.
2. If you have one part of the armor off, then the devil is not going to flee.
C. As Christians, Christ is our Armor because apart from Him, we can do nothing.

In order to have the armor of Christ, you must be in Christ.
A. According to and baptism is where one gets into Christ.
B. In order to be protected by armor, a knight must put it on, which means to be clothed in the armor.

In order for Christ to protect us, we must put Him on, just as a knight puts armor on; this is how we put on the Armor of God—by putting on Christ.
2. The way we keep the armor on is by remaining faithful.
CONCLUSION:
1. Have you put on the whole Armor of God?
A. Are you God’s knight, who uses His armor to stand against the devil?

If you have not been baptised in obedience to Him, then you are not God’s knight because you have never put on His Armor.
A. You cannot stand against the devil without the whole armor of God and if you have not put on Christ, then God’s Armor is not available to you because Christ is our armor, and it is only through His strength that we can stand against the devil.
