Actions speak louder then words

Personal intro. Working with High School students.
When I was in High School Parents would pay a ton of money to get half pages printed in the year book. I would always wonder if the parents were trying to compensate for something. Maybe they had missed all their kids games and were trying to make up for it.
I think the same thing when i see one of those oversized bears. That dude must have messed up big time!
I didn’t need my parents to have a huge print out of me on the yearbook to prove to me that they loved me. I knew they did by their words and their actions. My parents were at so many sports games drove me to so many event that I told them to not worry about missing the ones that were far away because they were always there.
You may have heard the phrase that “ actions speak louder then words” or “talk is cheap”. This is true as far as words that aren’t backed up back actions. This is true of my parents. When they said they loved and cared for me it was backed up by actions.
The same is true for Jesus. The bible says that Jesus demonstrated his own love for us that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.
This of course is the physical proof of His love toward us.
But Jesus didn’t just die for us he lived for us. And not just for us but with us.
:14
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Jesus dwelt with us.

took up residence The Greek verb used here literally means “to dwell in a tent”

1: to remain for a time

2 a: to live as a resident

b: EXIST, LIE

Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”

Jesus came down
Jesus spoke a lot of truth but he Also spent a lot of time.
His actions connected perfectly with his words.
He spent time with the people. He walked with them. This is in stark contrast to the religious leaders who seemed to stand a far off from the people.
We are
After Jesus compleated his mission he sent his followers out into the world to make desciples.
And eventurally they got the hint and went out into all the world preaching the gospel. But not just preaching, they were living dweling and doing life with the people they encountered.
We are to be just like the rabbi. We are to dwel with people and share the love of Christ with them.
God Demonstrated his love for us. Love is not a passive thing. It is naturaly works outwardly. Gods love for us compelled him to die for us.
Wednesday Lew spoke at Youth Group and he said “Love is a verb”. This really stuck me because I have always thought of my self as a loving person. But i had thought my self as loving because i didnt hate anyone. To be frank I had a moderly warm feeling but not the Love the God calls us to have.
The Love that God has for us compelled him to dwel with us. We are to do the same. We are to commune with our brothers and sisters in christ and other non christians who God has called us to love on.

Church has changed

I have learned a lot being the High School director. It used to be that a church would throw a slick event and people would pour into the pews. This worked for a while but it was never meant to be the singular way to transport the gospel of Jesus.
Big events aren’t bad but they only work as far as the relantionships that hold them up. Jesus had his moments of thousands of folks but they were built on the days of hanging out and pouring into the 12.
We are holding a few very large events in the community coming up. They will only work if we contiune to dwel with the people in our community before and after they are held.
The whole reason we hold this is to build relantionships.
There is this funny socolicgial phemonone.
Law of disbursed responsibility. When we are at a big church we can think others will take the responsibility. We all have to dwell with the people that God has put in our lives.
But we need to remember that this applies to all kinds of people. Not just the ones that look like us.
Think again of Jesus. He came and dwelt with us. He was the ultimate missonary. He learned a new lauange moved to a new city lived with a different family ate different food. Because he loved us and that caused him to dwell with us.
Personally this lesson has applied to me so much working with our HS students.
Walking onto a HS campus can feel as strange as going to a new country. But i can not expct to have any impact in the community without builiding relantionships first. And with people who sound and look different then myself.
As i hang out or dwell with these high schoolers i am able to connect with them and speak into their lives in a way that really impacts them.
The reason why Alex and the Young Life ministry does so well is because they constinatly dwell with these students.
As i have been thinking about and praying about the High school ministry at our church I have come to relize that my goal as the High School director is not to build a strong stand alone Youth group but to help build a strong church where High Schoolers play a huge part.
Would you partner with me in that mission and connect with some younger folks?
When you affirm a young man you couldn’t imagin the impact it has on them.
The strength of our church has been our commitment to become like Jesus. Our contunied growth will be determed on us contuining in that call.

Jesus stepped down out of heaven to dwel with us. Let us go and dwell in our community and be Just like Jesus.
We wouldn't just send short term missions work. Why do we think we can do short term discipleship?
