Introduction:
Today we are talking about something we are all tempted to do when we face tough times: Hide.
Peaches hiding from thunderstorms.
Highest level of “Nope” I’ve ever seen.
We all search for a temporary hiding place.
Maybe your hiding place is:
Physical-Something that feels good that makes you forget pain
Emotional-Something you think back on and remember, or something you read
Relational-Someone you go to to forget pain
Tension:
We all hide from things.
It is called “procrastination.”
But it is the same thing.
We hide so we don’t have to face them.
-
Some of us hide from different things: Some hide fro
We all hide from different things.
I hide from busy work.
Some hide from the gym.
Like my dog hiding from a storm, it doesn’t change the fact that the storm is there.
-Our parents fight whether we acknowledge it or not
-Our grades plummet even if we ignore it
-Senior project is right around the corner and we think we have time...
You get the idea.
When Hiding is a common way of responding to tough situations, here is what happens:
We feel alone
We feel like everyone else’s life is great
We become hyper focused on ourselves
Truth:
Lots of Paul talk the past couple months.
He had serious street cred.
Here is what Paul says about how we deal with tough seasons of life:
We find comfort in the one who gives all comfort.
You know what won’t protect my dog: being half-way under the bed.
But what would is if my dog would come to me and stay by me.
Thats what God is asking us to do.
Come and find our shelter in him.
Thats where comfort can be found.
Instead of God we:
Stay with fake friends
We create fake social media accounts
We turn to bad relationships
We try to find comfort in temporary, unsatisfying things
Application:
the first alternative to hiding: Look for comfort
Then, look to comfort someone else.
