Illus: Airport chaos....higher up in the tower we see the organization.
We have seen the earthly realities of the Seven churches in the previous chapters.
The churches, where God dwells, are to shine God’s light to the ends of the earth.
Now John gets a heavenly view of reality in order to give assurance and hope to the churches.
What does the Church need to endure suffering? A true vision of the majesty and glory of God.
Chapter 4-5 consist of one vision. In 4—we God the Father and Creator. In Chapter 5 we see the Son and the Redeemer.
These 2 chapters are immersed in OT imagery and texts such as ; ; and .
Specifically G.K. Beale notes 14 specific connections between and . The thrust of the two chapters is that both by creation and by redemption God is sovereign over His world.
OT—Tabernacle and Temple were shadows of things within heaven.
These were the center of worship in the OT. When Jesus comes he literally “tabernacles” among us.
The history of the universe from creation to consummation, finds its significance in worship.
represents the heart of the universe, the heart of meaning, the heart of history.

God is king over all things: Praise Him. 4:1-5

Everything that is happening on the earth is under the watchful eye of God who sees all things.

David organizes the Aaronic priests into 24 divisions. Dedicated servants in heaven and on earth for temple.

Waters subdued by God. God’s throne is magnificent. This could also be where Solomon’s sea comes from as found in
1 Kings 7:23–25 ESV

The 24 elders join in the praise of the 4 living beings and praise God because He is the Creator.

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!
Do you believe that He is worthy of our praise? DO you praise him with your time, your talents, and your treasures?
