LEADER AS HONOR
Leader represents honor.
God calls individuals to positions of leadership, both spiritual and political.
Such leadership is seen as carrying responsibilities towards both God and his
people and is to be exercised with humility.
Under the old covenant God called priests and prophets as spiritual leaders.
Later the Pharisees gave spiritual leadership.
After Jesus Christ had inaugurated the new covenant, authority was given to the apostles, who in turn appointed leaders in the churches.

Spiritual Leaders
The lives of godly leaders in Scriptures highlight some of the areas of spiritual life that we must protect and nurture.
GROWING SPIRITUALLY
Lets look at words that came from King David heart {Psalm 62:1-2}
My SOUL finds rest in God alone.
My SALVATION comes from him.
He alone is my ROCK and my SALVATION.
He is my FORTRESS, I will never be shaken.
WATCHING FOR GOD
WA
Part of growing spiritually is recognizing that God is constantly speaking to us.
He desires to teach us and guide us, and it is when we allow Him to do that that we grow in ways we never imagined.
As leaders, we must constantly be in tune to the Lord.
As we enter into leading a small group of people that God has brought together, we need to be closely connected to God to hear his direction and follow his lead.
When we are watching God, we maintain our vision and our passion, we are strengthened and empowered, and we are used by the Almighty God in his work
HONESTY WITH GOD
What makes it so difficult sometimes for Christian leaders to make wise and godly choices?
The answers to these questions are not easy, and there are many factors that work together, but one of the common problems is lack of honesty with God.
He was in the highest leadership position among God’s people, and his life was tainted by sin and very serious consequences
Civil leaders function in roles of authority over groups of people, but have a status beneath that of kings.
The road through confession and repentance was not an easy one for David.
But God offered help by sending Nathan, the prophet, to point out the sin David was hiding from.
Being in a leadership role does not exclude us from needing the accountability of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
No matter what position we hold or how well our small groups are going, sin will seep in.
And when it does, we have two choices.
One response is to hide it or ignore it and go on leading.
The other response is confession and repentance
When we choose to hide our sin, we begin to draw away from God.
It becomes difficult to spend time with him and difficult to pray.
We are plagued by guilt and doubt.
Soon our spiritual growth is severely damaged
Repentance leads to forgiveness, cleansing and relationship.
When we confess our sin to the Lord, we experience his grace and renewal.
We keep climbing on our journey with God with new understanding and strengthened faith.
To get back on the path—and stay on it—we get into relationships of accountability to help us resist the temptations that entice leaders.
We need to surround ourselves with people who we respect and will listen to.
We must give them the freedom to ask us about our areas of weakness and struggle.
Their role is crucial if we are to mature as leaders
