gives us Gods perspective on who are the wicked and obedient, and the Parable of prodigal reveals our perspective vs His on this issue.
Parable of prodigal our perspective vs His.
2 forms of arrogance:
Self Sufficiency and Entitlement.
1 I will live how I want to, I don’t need to obey
2 I will earn my position and deserve prosperity for my work (was me)
3:13-15 describes what we are not supposed to be like, the arrogant.
16-17 describes the righteous, they are humble.
Arrogant
Kind of people supposed to be:
Fearing (awe/reverance)
honoring
serving
Parable of the lost son
Shame try's to keep us with the pigs, while grace is calling us home.
Older brother is upset because he thinks he's earned his position and the other brother hasn't.
V12 it all began with the father distributing the assets. The work came after, the older brother didn't recognize what he had he didn't earn, he had received just like The younger brother.
Starts with identity
Our actions lead to our misery
We seek help from the wrong places
Came to senses (moment of realization)
This is not who I am!
Decision 18
Sin is against God first and foremost
Humility and desire to serve
(W/out desire to serve your still back at v12 demanding inheritance you think u deserve)
rocky 5 speech to his son.
Action 19
The Father did the most of the work. The son just changed directions, the father ran to him and made returning easy.
"But" v22
He didn't dwell on the sins past He focused on the moment.
His father treasured him.
V25 older brother was to busy working to notice what was happening.
V26 summoned servants, came near but wouldn't go in himself?
V28 angry and didn't go in.
Father came to him as well
V29 I slaved and obeyed but you didn't reward me? (Received inheritance in beginning)
V31 my presence is the reward.
V32 it's an amazing event when the dead come to life, when the lost come to their senses.
Both sons were arrogant, one left in arrogance and the other stayed and worked in arrogance.
Humility vs arrogance -
How did He fight for us? He came and lived as one of us, suffered as one of us and died the death we should have died in order to redeem us as His treasured possession.
No more shame for us, shame belongs to the dominion of darkness now. We are victorious because King Jesus has made us victorious. Be the treasured possession of God that He says you are today. Live in the identity He has given you! ,
