“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
“Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?
“And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.
“But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! “Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’
“For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Homiletic idea: God will meet all our needs if we put Him first.
Introduction:What do you need to live? Food, Electricity, gas, water, sewer? 1.3 billion people across the globe have no access to electricity. 291 million children attend primary schools with no electricity. 1.6 million Americans do not have indoor plumbing. We understand that there are certain things we cannot live without. Food and water are at the top of the list. God promises to meet all of our needs. He does not promise to meet all of our wants.

Jesus tells his listeners not to worry. The word worry comes from an old word meaning to “strangle” or to choke. Don’t let these things choke the life out of you, while they are important, what Jesus offers is much more important.

Food
We can’t live without food, but Jesus wants us to understand that there is still something more we need. We can’t spend every waking minute worrying about it. The focus here is on faith, not food.
Clothing
I remember someone once saying, “The clothing makes the man.” The Pharisees only dressed in the finest clothing. After all, they were men of God and they couldn’t go around in tattered clothes. We agonize over what we are going to wear. We stand and stare at closets full of clothes, looking for just the right outfit for the right occasion. We judge people on the clothes they wear. Highwaters. Clothing does not make the man, God makes the man. A rascal in a $1000 suit is still a rascal. Don’t worry about your clothes, worry about your soul and the souls of others.

They don’t do anything to deserve it
A flower doesn’t earn any of its beauty, God takes care of that. This is a lesson we need to learn. God ascribes value to us because of who we are, not because of what we are. We are His, and because of that:
You are worth much more than any plant
1. Jesus didn’t die for the plants or the birds. He died for you and for me!
As beautiful as the flowers are, they are only here for a moment and then they are forgotten. Think of the most beautiful flower you have ever seen. What can you tell me about it? What made it different from all the rest? Flowers are beautiful but they are not people and they are not eternal. We are so much more valuable to God. When we realize this, we will realize how valuable God is to us. He deserves our focus, not our worry.

Shortens life
Instead of increasing our life, worry shortens it.
Weakens the immune system, causes high blood pressure, upsets the stomach and causes ulcers, raises the heart rate, panic attacks, creates cardio-vascular problems, increases blood sugar levels, causes backaches, and causes sleep problems.
ii. Life is but a vapor, a mist. Our time is better spent chasing that which will last. (Store up treasures in heaven.)
Worry is a waste of time and energy
What does worrying gain you? Tell me one thing positive that comes out of worry. All it does is divert your attention away from God and make your blood pressure go up.

a. When we put our pursuit of material things above God:i. We spend our time gaining material things.ii. We worry about keeping or losing those material things.iii. We chase after the wrong kind of treasures. Living by faith means that We trust God and pursue Him above all else. Believe that God will fill in the gaps for what we need.

Conclusion:
· Worry is a waste of time. It is a sign that we do not trust God.
