SAMARITANS HISTORY

1. Result of intermarriage with pagan nations

a. 2 Kings 17:24 The king of Assyria brought foreigners from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva, Hamath, and Sepharvaim and settled them in the cities of Samaria in place of the Israelites.

2. Mutual hatred between Jews and Samaritans

3. In Luke 9, James and John ask Jesus to allow them to call down fire from heaven to consume the Samaritans.

THE SAVING FAITH OF THE SAMARITANS

1. John 4 - Samaritan woman.

a. John 4:7-9 A Samaritan woman came to draw water.

Jesus said to her, “Give me some water to drink.” 8 (For his disciples had gone off into the town to buy supplies.)

9 So the Samaritan woman said to him, “How can you—a Jew—ask me, a Samaritan woman, for water to drink?” (For Jews use nothing in common with Samaritans.)

2. It was God’s Love, Grace and Mercy that provided the opportunity for the Samaritans to be saved.

a. Grace is an unmerited gift from God.

There is nothing that I can do to earn this Grace.

If so, there would have been no need for Christ.

God’s grace DOES NOT mean I’m provided a free ticket into heaven.

It provides an opportunity.

Romans 5:1-2 Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have also OBTAINED ACCESS by FAITH into this GRACE in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of God’s glory.

3. HOW DO I GET FAITH - Romans 10:17 Consequently FAITH COMES FROM WHAT IS HEARD, and what is heard comes through the preached WORD OF CHRIST.

What must I do when I hear the Gospel - Acts 8:12-13 But when they believed Philip as he was proclaiming the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they BEGAN TO BE BAPTIZED, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN.
