Singing & Making Melody to the Lord

Text: Eph. 5:17-20; Col. 3:15-17

Thesis: To understand better the purpose of singing and suggest ways to enhance our

              singing.

Introduction:

(1)   Singing is an integral part of a Christian’s worship to God.

(2)   As a matter of fact, it is the only act of worship that will continue in Heaven.

(3)   Let us seek to understand better the purpose of singing and note some things that we can do in order to enhance our song service.

Discussion:

I.                   The Purpose of Singing:

A.    To Express Our Being  Filled with the Spirit (Eph. 5:18)

1.      James 5:13 – Any merry, let him sing

2.      This explains Acts 16:25; i.e., Paul & Silas singing even while in prison

B.     To Praise the Lord (Eph. 5:19-20)

1.      Singing is one of the spiritual sacrifices that we are to offer to God (Heb. 13:15).

2.      We should always be giving thanks to God for all that He has done and continues to do for us.

C.     To Teach and Admonish One Another (Col. 3:16; Eph. 5:19)

II.                Ways to Enhance Our Singing:

A.    Recognize that you are singing ‘to the Lord’ (Eph. 5:19).

B.     Sing with your ‘mind’ (1 Cor. 14:15).

C.     Sing with your ‘heart’ (Col. 3:16; Eph. 5:19).

Conclusion:

-          How is your singing?
