(1) Peace is something for which everyone longs.
(2) The Holy Spirit can bear this fruit in our lives.
(3) Let us look at the peace that we can have:
*Discussion*:
I.
Peace with God
A.
Outside of Christ, there can be no peace with God because Christ is the one who came to bring this peace (Luke 2:14; cf.
Isa.
9:6).
B. This peace is possible because:
1. Jesus’ sacrifice – “And through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross” (Col.
1:20).
2. Our faith – “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom.
5:1).
II.
Peace with Self
A.
Too often, people are torn inwardly and are unable to find tranquility.
B. With God, a person can find tranquility.
1. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil.
4:6-7).
2. “But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head.
To the LORD I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill.
I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.
I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side” (Psa.
3:3-6).
III.
Peace with Others
A.
If we have peace with God and with self, then we can and must also have peace with others.
Listen to the Scriptures:
1. “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.
And be thankful” (Col.
3:15).
2. “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Rom.
12:18).
3. “Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord” (Heb.
12:14).
4. “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” (Eph.
4:3).
5. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God” (Matt.
5:9).
