(1) We’ve all heard sermons about the great commission, some good, some bad.
(2) Today, we will hear another sermon about the great commission, but I pray that this sermon will approach the topic in a way that will be encouraging.
*Discussion*:
I.
The Motivation for Evangelism:
A.
We’ve heard the verses that command us to be evangelistic (e.g., Matt.
28:19-20; Mk. 16:15-16).
B. Today, I want us to see the person who inspires us to be evangelistic.
1. Jesus Christ “has come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10).
2. He left His home in Heaven to come to redeem us.
3.
He died upon the cross to save us.
II.
The Message for Evangelism:
A.
The message is the ‘gospel’ (i.e., good news), which is the death, burial, and resurrection (cf. 1 Cor.
15:1-3).
B. This is the power of God unto salvation (Rom.
1:16).
III.
The ‘Method’ for Evangelism:
A.
I’m sorry, but I don’t have a 3-step formula, or a magic pill.
B. Instead, I offer up for our consideration some Biblical examples that demonstrate that evangelism is about sharing the message through a variety of ways:
1.
In 2 Kings 5:1ff., a slave girl told Naaman where to find healing.
2. In John 1:40-43, Andrew brought Peter to Jesus.
3. In 2 Timothy 1:5 & 3:15, Lois (g.m.) and Eunice (m) taught Timothy.
4. In Luke 7:1-17, a centurion brings Jesus to his servant.
5. In Mark 5:19, the former demon-possessed man was told to go home to report what great things the Lord had done in his life.
C. The point is that there is no one way to do evangelism; therefore, just tell others about Jesus in your own way!
*Conclusion*:
(1) God has given you this mission, should you choose to accept it … No, the message will not self-destruct in 10 seconds, and no, the mission is not mission impossible.
(2) God made you for this mission and will be with you to help you carry it out!
