*The Gospel Defined*

*Text*:*  *1 Cor.
15:1-4

*Thesis*: To discuss the 3 aspects of the gospel and their significance for us today.
*Introduction*:

(1)   The gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone (Rom.
1:16).
(2)   Paul defines it by emphasizing the 3 aspects: 1) Jesus’ death; 2) Burial; and 3) Resurrection (1 Cor.
15:1-4).
(3)   Let us discuss each one of these:

*Discussion*:

I.
His Death:

A.
Judas’ betrayal
B.     Sanhedrin trial
C.     Pilate, Herod, Pilate
D.    Barabbus’ release
E.     The scourging
F.      The crucifixion

II.
His Burial (cf.
Matt.
27:57-66):

A.
Joseph of Arimathea, with Pilate’s approval, wrapped Jesus’ body in a clean linen cloth and buried Him in a new tomb.
B.     Then, Joseph placed a large stone before the tomb’s entrance.
C.     Afterwards, Pilate sent guards to secure the tomb and to seal the stone to prevent anyone from taking the body.
III.
His Resurrection:

A.
Order of appearances = 1 Cor.
15:4-8
B.     Hear these words:
Ø  “And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.”
(Luke 24: 3).
Ø  “…Why seek ye the living among the dead?” (Luke 24: 5).
Ø  “…they saw that the stone was rolled away…” (Mark 16: 4).
Ø  “He is not here: for He is risen…” (Mat.
28: 6).
*Conclusion*:

(1)   Good news = you can be saved
(2)   Obey the gospel = Rom.
