Jonah 2:1 HCSB
Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from inside the fish:

Every person is either a missionary or they need a missionary- professor ? Hunter Johnson
They were not saying you must go to some foreign field, but instead we are to live life on mission with God and carrying out his will for us.
We can be misguided because of lack of prayerfulness
There is no mention of prayer until chapter 2 and verse 1. You can almost guarantee that Jonah is not found praying in Chapter 1 because he’s not going to like what God has to say to him. While Jonah tries to escape God’s will, and not be involved in the Mission God has given him, there is no prayer.

We need to remain prayerful and attentive

Not every open door is an opportunity to embrace (Bro. Jimmy going to wrong church)
Jonah found the opportunity to sail to Tarshish, but that was not of God.
We must remain prayerful if we are going to discern what’s from God and what’s there to distract and derail us.

We need to see the fish as provision more than punishment

The harder Jonah tried to get away, the closer God was moving him to the mission.
What has God placed in your path that seems like an obstacle, but is really God’s way of re directing toward His Mission for your life?

We need to allow our prayer life to shape our witness

Who are you praying for to be saved?
Who do you feel God is pointing out to you that needs Christ?
Who are you praying for an opportunity to share your witness with?
What areas of your life are leading you astray in your witness and walk?
