I. They came out of Egypt and slavery

A. Praised God

II. God gives the law - Why?

A. they didn’t know God

B. they were becoming a nation

C. they were now God’s people

D. they needed an identity

E. they needed to know who God was and what he was like

F. there are 2 sections of the law

1. moral

2. law because it was a country

3. there are some laws that DON’T have any effect once you cross the border

พระเจ้าตรัสพระวจนะทั้งสิ้นต่อไปนี้ว่า "เราคือยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของเจ้า ผู้ได้นำเจ้าออกจากแผ่นดินอียิปต์คือจากแดนทาส "ห้ามมีพระเจ้าอื่นใดนอกเหนือจากเรา "ห้ามทำรูปเคารพสำหรับตน เป็นรูปสิ่งใดซึ่งมีอยู่ในฟ้าเบื้องบน หรือบนแผ่นดินเบื้องล่าง หรือในน้ำใต้แผ่นดิน ห้ามกราบไหว้หรือปรนนิบัติรูปเหล่านั้น เพราะเราคือยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของเจ้า เป็นพระเจ้าที่หวงแหน ให้โทษของบิดาตกทอดไปถึงลูกหลานของผู้ที่ชังเราจนถึงสามชั่วสี่ชั่วอายุคน แต่แสดงความรักมั่นคงต่อคนที่รักเรา และรักษาบัญญัติของเราจนถึงนับพันชั่วอายุคน "ห้ามใช้พระนามพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของเจ้าไปในทางที่ผิด เพราะผู้ที่ใช้พระนามของพระองค์ไปในทางที่ผิดนั้น พระยาห์เวห์จะทรงเอาโทษ "จงระลึกถึงวันสะบาโต ถือเป็นวันบริสุทธิ์ จงทำงานทั้งสิ้นของเจ้าหกวัน แต่วันที่เจ็ดนั้นเป็นสะบาโตแด่พระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของเจ้า ในวันนั้นห้ามทำงานใดๆไม่ว่าเจ้าเอง หรือบุตรชายบุตรหญิงของเจ้า หรือทาสทาสีของเจ้า หรือสัตว์ใช้งานของเจ้า หรือคนต่างด้าวที่อาศัยอยู่ในประตูเมืองของเจ้า เพราะในหกวันพระยาห์เวห์ทรงสร้างฟ้าและแผ่นดิน ทะเล และสรรพสิ่งซึ่งมีอยู่ในที่เหล่านั้น แต่ในวันที่เจ็ดทรงพัก เพราะฉะนั้นพระยาห์เวห์ทรงอวยพรวันสะบาโต และทรงตั้งวันนั้นไว้เป็นวันบริสุทธิ์ "จงให้เกียรติแก่บิดามารดาของเจ้า เพื่ออายุของเจ้าจะได้ยืนยาวบนแผ่นดิน ซึ่งพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของเจ้าประทานแก่เจ้า "ห้ามฆ่าคน "ห้ามล่วงประเวณีผัวเมียเขา "ห้ามลักขโมย "ห้ามเป็นพยานเท็จใส่ร้ายเพื่อนบ้าน "ห้ามโลภบ้านเรือนของเพื่อนบ้าน ห้ามโลภภรรยาของเพื่อนบ้าน หรือทาสทาสีของเขา หรือโค ลาของเขา หรือสิ่งใดๆ ซึ่งเป็นของของเพื่อนบ้าน" ประชาชนทุกคนได้ยินเสียงฟ้าร้อง และเสียงแตร อีกทั้งได้เห็นฟ้าแลบและควันที่พลุ่งขึ้นจากภูเขานั้น ประชาชนก็กลัวจนตัวสั่นยืนอยู่แต่ไกล พวกเขาจึงกล่าวกับโมเสสว่า "ท่านจงนำความมาเล่าเถิด เราจะฟัง แต่อย่าให้พระเจ้าตรัสกับเราเลย เกรงว่าเราจะตาย" โมเสสจึงกล่าวกับประชาชนว่า "อย่ากลัวเลย เพราะว่าพระเจ้าเสด็จมาเพื่อทรงลองใจพวกท่าน เพื่อพวกท่านจะได้ยำเกรงพระองค์ และจะได้ไม่ทำบาป" ประชาชนยืนอยู่แต่ไกล แต่โมเสสเข้าไปใกล้ความมืดทึบที่พระเจ้าสถิตอยู่นั้น พระยาห์เวห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า "จงบอกชนชาติอิสราเอลดังนี้ว่า 'พวกเจ้าได้เห็นแล้วว่า เราพูดกับพวกเจ้าจากท้องฟ้า

IV. the 10 commandments

A. How we should live before God

เราควรจะใช้ชีวิตต่อหน้าพระพักตร์พระเจ้าอย่างไร?

1. no other God

ห้ามมีพระเจ้าอื่นใดนอกเหนือจากเรา

2. don’t bow down to other gods

ห้ามทำรูปเคารพสำหรับตน

3. don’t take his name in vain

ห้ามใช้พระนามพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของเจ้าไปในทางที่ผิด

a) king of thailand

4. sabbath

จงระลึกถึงวันสะบาโต ถือเป็นวันบริสุทธิ์

B. how we should live before others

1. obey parents

จงให้เกียรติแก่บิดามารดาของเจ้า

2. don’t kill

ห้ามฆ่าคน

3. no adultery

ห้ามล่วงประเวณีผัวเมียเขา

4. no steal

ห้ามลักขโมย

5. no lie

ห้ามเป็นพยานเท็จใส่ร้ายเพื่อนบ้าน

6. no covet

ห้ามโลภ

V. they heard the law from God, and They agreed to do what anyone would do if they just heard from God -

we will do it!!

A. Rules bring freedom

1. We DON’T like them, but

B. Freedom - How life works best -

1. bird free in air, fish, car on land

2. We need rules in my house with 3 selfish girls

C. but they also found out what we all find out when we try to obey perfectly - we have sin in us and we do

not obey God

E. no matter how hard they tried or how much they wanted to

F. The law is good, the problem is that we can’t keep it, so I would like to show you the difference between

the law and grace

G. The good and bad of God’s law

For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.”

The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me. For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me. So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good. Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure. For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

VI. Jesus came to free us from the law

A. Dr. Law and Dr. Grace

1. dr law - its your heart, not eyes, ears, hands, feet

2. Dr. Grace does operation on heart

a) he sees his heart, that Dr. law was right

b) brought in a new heart

3. Friend who paid the bill - Jesus

B. Jesus came to fulfill the law - to finish its purpose

C. Matt 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to

Matthew 5:17 ESV

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

D. to do what we couldn’t

E. Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us:

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—

F. Rom 7:25-8:4

Romans 7:25–8:4 ESV

Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

G. Gal 4:4-7

Galatians 4:4–7 ESV

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.

H. saved by God, not by keeping rules

I. and that is the very important lesson God was trying to teach them -

1. Not to kill hope, but to give hope - but in Jesus, not in themselves

2. God is Holy, and if we are going to obey perfectly, we must do this

3. and since we cant, we deserve punishment

4. we don’t deserve to be free from the results of doing wrong - KARMA - if we do wrong, we get

wrong

5. but the difference is God’s grace available through Jesus

a) the difference is what Jesus came to do

b) the difference is the plan of God to make a way to be forgiven

6. that they can’t be perfect and save themselves, they cant obey, they must trust in Jesus to save

them

7. What we Get

a) forgiveness, not punishment

b) hope, not fear

c) blessing, not cursing

d) life, not death

e) Strong because of God’s spirit, not dependent upon our flesh

f) Rom 8

g) free from the law

h) the promises and blessing of Abraham as sons

i) we get more from grace than we could get from keeping the law perfectly

8. but we aren’t saved by rules, we are saved by God

VII. Trust in Jesus and be saved from the curse of the law

A. What was the purpose for us?

1. To show us how to live

a) not all of it is meant to continue, but the 10 commandments, yes.

b) They are all repeated in the new testament

c) Christians have a different relationship to the law - no longer under it

(1) but it still shows us what is right and wrong

(2) how? we are under the Spirit - which writes the law on our hearts

(a) gives us a inner desire

(b) when you become a christian, God changes your heart to love him and love what he loves

i) he tells us to love, not kill

ii) to tell the truth, not lie

iii) to be faithful to others, like our wife, like he is faithful to us

iv) to trust Him completely, alone, and not be deceived by other gods

2. to show us that we are sinners

a) Jesus came, kept all the rules because we couldn’t, and saved us

3. the order is very important

a) which comes first? salvation or obedience?

b) there are some that say that jews were saved if they kept the law, and they pointed to all the laws of israel

VIII. Illustrations to help understand

A. pilgrims progress burden on his back - losing it at the cross

B. how the Bible explains it in the new testament

1. our schoolmaster

a) teaches us

b) not nice, no mercy

2. marriage

IX. we can easily be crushed under the law of God - if we misunderstand it

XIII. we DON’T follow the law, but the spirit who writes it on our hearts

XIV. So God gave them the commandments, here they are

A. God is the creator, and unique, all power is his, there is no other God, so don’t act like it

1. what you worship today and think about tomorrow decides what you do today

2. other gods are false and counterfeit

a) they are from the father of lies

b) God just showed his power over other gods in egypt

c) there are other spiritual powers, but only 1 God

(1) from the garden, there was satan who lies and decieves

(2) he can take many forms
