The Greeks made gods, or deified, both the concept of sophia (wisdom) and gnosis (knowledge).  According to Greek mythology, Gnosis was a lame deity.  He only did what the beautiful and desirous goddess Sophia told him to do.  Gnosis was her servant.  And if one could marry Sophia he would gain her bond slave (gnosis) who was lame in the feet but who was a wonderful help to have around
