IT’S TIME TO PRAY

5 He also said to them: “Suppose one of you q has a friend and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,  6 because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I don’t have anything to offer him.’
r  7 Then he will answer from inside and say, ‘Don’t bother me!
The door is already locked, and my children and I have gone to bed.
I can’t get up to give you anything.’
8 I tell you, even though he won’t get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence, s he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
t
9 “So u I say to you, keep asking, v w and it will be given to you.
Keep searching, x y and you will find.
Keep knocking, z a and the door will be opened to you.  10 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who searches finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
11 What father among you, if his son b asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead of a fish?  12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
13 If you then, who are evil, c know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father d give e the Holy Spirit f to those who ask Him?” *[1]* Luke 11:5-13
\\ A turbulent plane ride, a lightning storm, an oncoming car those are things which need immediate prayer.
Through prayer miracles happen we are promised by Jesus  .   .

1.
We need to pray in our rooms more and less in church.
(long prosy talks) \\ \\ \\ Eight-ninths of the bulk of an iceberg is below the waterline and out of sight.
Only one-ninth is visible above the surface.
Our prayer life should be like an iceberg, with about one-ninth showing in public group prayer and eight-ninths out of sight in our personal prayer time.[2]

Mr.
(John) Wesley spent two hours daily in prayer.
He began at four in the morning.
John Welch, the holy and wonderful Scotch preacher, thought the day ill spent if he did not spend eight or ten hours in prayer.
Praying is spiritual work; and human nature does not like taxing, spiritual work.
Human nature wants to sail to heaven under a favoring breeze, a full, smooth sea.
Prayer is humbling work.
It abases intellect and pride, crucifies vainglory, and signs our spiritual bankruptcy, and all these are hard for flesh and blood to bear.
It is easier not to pray than to bear them.
So we come to one of the crying evils of these times, maybe of all times — little or no praying.
Of these two evils, perhaps little praying is worse than no praying.
Little praying is a kind of make-believe, a salvo for the conscience, a farce and a delusion.[4]

You ever realize that we can’t spend five minutes with God.
No other life was ever so crowded with labor and responsibility as was that of Jesus; yet how often He was found in prayer!
How constant was His communion with God! Again and again in the history of His earthly life are found records such as these: "Rising up a great while before day, He went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed."
"Great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities.
And He withdrew Himself into the wilderness, and prayed."
"And it came to pass in those days, that He went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God." Mark 1:35; Luke 5:15, 16; 6:12.

\\ \\ Jesus said watch and pray why?
Because the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
Watch, pray, work--this is the Christian’s watchword.
The life of a true Christian is a life of constant prayer.
He knows that the light and strength of one day is not sufficient for the trials and conflicts of the next.
Satan is continually changing his temptations.
Every day we shall be placed in different circumstances; and in the untried scenes that await us we shall be surrounded by fresh dangers, and constantly assailed by new and unexpected temptations.
It is only [BEGIN P.258] through the strength and grace gained from heaven that we can hope to meet the temptations and perform the duties before us*[6]*

Isa 65:1  (one commentary translation)
The Lord said, “I was ready to answer my people’s prayers, but they did not pray.
I was ready for them to find me, but they did not even try.
The nation did not pray to me, even though I was always ready to answer, ‘Here I am; I will help you[8]

No wonder the songwriter says
What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.[9]

There are certain times, I believe, not all of the time, when passionate prayer has to take place.
When we talk with Him causally by the way of course it is not needed.
