DAY OF ATONEMENT

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement (วันทำการลบมลทิน), is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

It is the day when all Israel mourns for their sins. 

Every 24 hours the people were to do no work, but were to spend the entire time confessing their sins that they had committed during the past year.

                                       มหาปุโรหิตผู้เดียวเท่านั้นที่เข้าไปได้ปีละครั้ง        เข้าสถานศักดิ์สิทธิ์  

On this day, and only on this day, the High Priest would enter the Most Holy of Holies in the Temple, the place where the Shekinah glory dwelt. (Heb 9:7)

เขาจะเปลื้องเครื่องแต่งกายผ้าป่านชุดที่แต่ง                         เขาจะเข้าทำการลบมลทินของสถานศักดิ์สิทธิ์  

He was to wear special clothing, a “sacred linen tunic,” and enter the Holy of Holies with the blood from the sacrificial animals, and sprinkle the blood before the mercy seat (Leviticus 16:23-24).

The blood sprinkled in the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement (วันทำการลบมลทิน) was a prefigurement of that ultimate sacrifice, God’s only begotten Son, that had to be paid to atone for our sins – for all eternity.

Hebrews 9:22b says, “Without the shedding of blood there is no remission.”  22b … และถ้าไม่มีโลหิตไหลออกแล้ว   ก็จะไม่มีการอภัยบาปเลย

The book of Hebrews describes Christ as our great High Priest who: “did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. … 14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!” (Hebrews 9:12, 14 – NIV)

12พระองค์เสด็จเข้าไปในวิสุทธิสถานเพียงครั้งเดียวเท่านั้น   และพระองค์ไม่ได้ทรงนำเลือดแพะและเลือดลูกวัวเข้าไป   แต่ทรงนำพระโลหิตของพระองค์เองเข้าไป   และทรงสำเร็จการไถ่บาปชั่วนิรันดร์ … 14พระโลหิตของพระเยซูคริสต์   ผู้ได้ทรงถวายพระองค์เองแด่พระเจ้าโดยพระวิญญาณนิรันดร์   ให้เป็นเครื่องบูชาอันปราศจากตำหนิ   ก็จะทรงชำระได้มากยิ่งกว่านั้นสักเพียงใด   เพื่อให้จิตใจของคนที่หมกมุ่นในการประพฤติที่นำไปสู่ความตาย   หันไปรับใช้พระเจ้าผู้ทรงพระชนม์อยู่ 

When Christ was crucified, His blood “covered over” our sins so that when God looks at a repentant sinner, He no longer sees the sin, rather, He sees the blood of His righteous Son.

We have miraculously become righteousness before our God because of the price which Jesus Christ paid when He died upon the cross.

2 Corinthians 5:21: “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (NIV)  21เพราะว่าพระเจ้าได้ทรงกระทำพระองค์ผู้ทรงไม่มีบาปให้บาป   เพราะเห็นแก่เรา   เพื่อเราจะได้เป็นคนชอบธรรมของพระเจ้าทางพระองค์

As the first and only sinless man, Jesus was the only person in history who did not deserve the judgment of eternal separation from God that the Bible calls hell.

Thus, a perfect sacrifice, He could stand in our place and pay the price of physical and spiritual death which each one of us deserves for our sinful rebellion.

Then, by His triumph over death and Hell, He won for us that righteousness which allows us to enter heaven.
