• Module 1
•   It was a hazy summer morning in 1990 as I left the 7-11 and pulled into the Certified Gas station.
I had a fresh cup of coffee and two Dunkin Donuts blueberry muffins—you know the kind—they’re two sizes bigger than the muffin paper they come in with all of those crumbly things on top.
As I started to fill the tank of the company van with gas I noticed a dog walking across the lot—not really in a hurry to go anywhere-just sort of checking things out.
I asked the attendant about him and he told me he was a stray that they adopted and called Harry, after Harry Hines Blvd. in Dallas where the station was located.
•   Now I am something of a dog lover so I thought I would feed him some of my muffin.
I reached in the cab and broke off a piece and approached Harry with my hand outstretched, offering him my muffin.
But as I stepped toward him he backed up.
I stepped forward with my hand outstretched and he backed up.
This went on for a few moments and finally I decided to lay the muffin down and step back.
As I did he approached the treat, sniffed it from about 18 inches away, turned and walked away.
• Module 2
•   It was a cold, rainy, late November day nine years earlier as we arrived @ my in-laws for Sunday afternoon dinner.
We came through the breezeway into the utility room of the house and were immediately attacked by a brown ball of energetic fur.
Dad told us that the night before as he went out to get some firewood he heard a whining noise outside the door.
He looked out and didn’t see anything until he looked down and saw the puppy.
He was just sitting there drenched to the bone and whining to come in where he might find some warmth and food.
•   I sat down on the step and called the little guy to me.
He jumped into my lap and snuggled up against me and I knew he was coming home with Darleen and I.
•   Jesse was just the best little dog ever.
I taught him to speak on command, sit, lie down, roll over, and catch the Frisbee.
He would chase ducks, geese, deer, cows, ground hogs, or anything else that moved.
He brought us joy and laughter and friendship.
We adopted him into our family and we often referred to him as our first-born son.
• Module 3
•   He was with me until Mother’s Day 1994 when I had to carry him in my arms to see the vet.
We awoke that morning to find that he’d had a stroke and couldn’t get up so there was nothing else to do.
I carried him back home in my arms and laid him to rest and wept.
•   As for Harry, that summer morning in 1990 was the one and only time I saw him.
He may well have died roaming the streets of some North Dallas industrial park, suspicious and alone.
I drove away from that gas station stunned @ his rejection of my offer of love and concern thinking of my Jesse back home.
It was in that moment the Lord spoke to me… as clearly as I have ever heard him… “Now you know how I feel!
You have just tasted of the human condition.”
•   I want to leave you with these verses for your consideration…

John 15:20-21
20Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’
If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you.
If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.
21But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.

Luke 10:16
16He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”
