Are You Continuing?

2 Timothy 4:1-5

Opening:         Relate Timothy joining Paul & Silas to a student joining Andrew and I

Background:

Ø  Probably met Paul and was saved under Paul’s 1st Missionary journey (Acts13:4-14:27)

Ø  Probably joined him on his 2nd Missionary journey

Ø  Paul sent him to Ephesus which was one of the most important cities at that time.

The Mission:

1. Preach the Word
1. Referring back to v. 3:16

1. Be prepared at all times
1. Lit. “be instant”
2. The message should be so intertwined with your life that it is always on the tip of your tongue.

1. What the message should contain:
1. Correction
2. Rebuke
3. Encouragement

The Environment:

1. People will not listen to the truth anymore
2. They will surround themselves with people who will tell them what they want to hear.
3. They will turn to teachings other than the truth

The Man:

1. Keep your head in all situations
1. This world is going to test your patience
2. They are waiting and watching for you to screw up

1. Endure hardships

1. Do the work of an evangelist
1. Bringing people to Christ

1. Discharge all of your duties
1. Be faithful to the end and finish strong
2. Especially powerful considering Paul’s circumstances
