Housekeeping:

Taking all of May off from teaching and worship responsibilities.
Sundays will be covered by my preaching squad.
Steven, Kyle, Lonnie, and Kurt will be teaching our Sunday services.
Wednesday Night will still consist of prayer and teaching.
I have a group of faithful men that will be sharing Wed. nights.
We have worship also being covered for all of may.
Please be patient and supportive of all of the men teaching, they are not me or perhaps as refined as we would like. But without opportunities to teach how will they grow.
The same goes for tour guest worship leaders and those in our congregation stepping up to help us.
We are expecting any day now, and it is my priority to minister to my family well.
We will be here for church we are not going anywhere. I cannot tell you how excited I am to be able to sit with y’all and hear good preaching.

Introduction:

Surrender:

Surrender: To yield; to give up; to resign in favor of another; as, to surrender a right or privilege; to surrender a place or an office.
Submit: To surrender; yield one’s person to the power of another; to give up resistance.
The word surrender is not found in the NT. Regardless in:
Romans 8:7 NKJV
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.
Enmity here means being in a state of opposition or conflict against God.
James 4:4 NKJV
4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
Yet, God’s grace:
Romans 5:8 NKJV
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
There are plenty of examples of those lost and dead in their sins surrendering to the Lordship of Christ and receiving salvation.
One of the greatest examples of this is found in Paul’s life:
Acts 9:1–6 NKJV
1 Then Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest 2 and asked letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. 3 As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. 4 Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” 5 And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” 6 So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
As we have already briefly mentioned, “surrender” and “submission” have some overlap. So when considering what it means to surrender to Christ, this happens at salvation, the rest of our lives will present opportunities to “submit” ourselves in love and obedience to Him.

Submission:

Submission involves three things:

1) Denial:

Luke 9:23 NKJV
23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
Denial really means “forgetting self.” To abandon our own interests, priorities, and goals. You and I are required to put Christ first in all we do:
Matthew 6:33 NKJV
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
James 4:7 NKJV
7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
What does it look like to deny yourself and pick up your cross to follow after your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?
Matthew 22:37–40 NKJV
37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
A person not willing to deny self will not trust Jesus Christ because they will care more about the things of this world then the things of Christ. Also, they will not be willing to suffer hardship or persecution for Christ either.

2) Dedication:

1 Peter 1:13 NKJV
13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
Dedication means “to give.” The person without dedication seeks to get—not give!
No one knows real joy and peace until they learn to give:
Their time
Psalm 27:13–14 NKJV
13 I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. 14 Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!
Their body
Romans 12:1 NKJV
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
Their money
Matthew 6:21 NKJV
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
To sum up dedication:
Philippians 3:7–10 NKJV
7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,

3) Determination:

Acts 20:24 NKJV
24 But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
Nothing could discourage Paul. Real submission will bring determination. What keeps people from real submission?

Application:

When we are firstly surrendered to Christ unto salvation and then seek to submit to Him daily we will find ourselves denying ourselves, dedicating our lives in service to Christ, all with determination.

Steady as you go:

Steady in your walk:

Galatians 5:16 NKJV
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
John 6:63 NKJV
63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
Let your walk glorify Christ! Don’t be a hypocrite!

Steady in your worship:

Revelation 2:10 NKJV
10 Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Nothing hinders our work for the Lord than indifference. Faithfulness is not only requested—it’s required. Worship is not only singing songs it is a life-style of faithfully living for God, bringing Him honor and glory daily.

Steady in your work and ministry:

Colossians 3:17 NKJV
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
The best workers should be Christians.

Steady in your witness:

1 Peter 3:15 NKJV
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;
We witness in two ways:
By our conduction:
1 Thessalonians 2:10 NKJV
10 You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe;
By our conversations:
Acts 20:20 NKJV
20 how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house,

Sincerity in all things:

The world is filled with phonies. People can overlook your failures and mistakes. But it is much more difficult to overlook your insincerity.

Sincere actions:

1 John 3:18 NKJV
18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
A genuine disciple of Christ will be sincere in serving and following Christ.

Sincere attitudes:

Philippians 4:8 NKJV
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Sincere affections:

John 14:15 NKJV
15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.
What we love most will control us.

Benediction:

Numbers 6:24–26 NKJV
24 “The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; 26 The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.” ’
