DECLARATION:
Ephesians 2:20–22 (ESV)
20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
SVCC is built by God, upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, and with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone.
We are joined together by union with Christ, we are growing, and we are a dwelling place of God by his Spirit.

INTRODUCTION:
Review: Acts of care begin the ripple effect of connection, collaboration, and celebration.
WHY?…
TODAY: Building Up/Momentum - Connection
Opening Scripture:
2 Cor. 13:1-12
2 Corinthians 13:10 (ESV)
10 For this reason I write these things while I am away from you, that when I come I may not have to be severe in my use of the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down.
Doing all we can to avoid “tearing down” and instead be people who “build up”
For us to have momentum/building up we must move from the beginning ripple of acts of care to connection!
2 Corinthians 13:11 “11 Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.”
Connection is the energy that is created between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; And they can give and receive without judgment; And when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship. - Brené Brown

Connection

Nurturing connection with others is essential for building a sense of community, belonging, and a mutual understanding.
Connection involves investing time, and effort into building and maintaining relationships, ultimately contributing to a supportive and enriching environment for individuals and communities.
In the Bible, personal connection is often described in terms of relationships, community, and fellowship. The scriptures emphasize the importance of connecting with others in various contexts, including relationships with God, family, and the broader community.

Examples of Connection:

Authentic Communication

Engaging an open and honest communication that promotes understanding, trust, and emotional intimacy with others.
“keep quiet” vs. open/honest conversations = wisdom

Empathy and Understanding

Demonstrating an understanding of others’ perspectives, emotions, and experiences, and showing empathy and compassion and interactions.
Sometimes we’re just different

Building Trust

Establishing a foundation of trust by consistently demonstrating honesty, reliability, and respect in relationships with others.

Shared Experiences

Creating opportunities for shared experiences, activities, and conversations that facilitate bonding and the development of shared memories.

Vulnerability and Authenticity

Being open and vulnerable in sharing one's thoughts, emotions, and experiences, and creating a space for others to do the same.
Examples of way to Nurture Connection at SVC:
-Sunday AM gathering
-Serving as a Team Member: Congregation Care, Facilities & Grounds, Hospitality, Kids Min, Music, Tech & Admin (Realm or Card)
-Quarterly Fellowship & Outreach event
-Participating in a community group (Realm or Card)
-Forming and leading a community group (Talk to a pastor)
-1st Wednesday prayer
Conclusion/Reflection:
By prioritizing connection over division, we honor the biblical principle of building up rather than tearing down. Connection fosters an environment where individuals feel valued, understood, and supported, contributing to the growth and well-being of both individuals and faith communities.
Just as 2 Corinthians 13:11 urges believers to aim for restoration and comfort, we must invest in authentic relationships characterized by open communication, empathy, and trust.
Examples of way INDIVIDUALS connect:
-Pray for others (specifically name them)
-Send an encouraging note
-Do activities together
-Eat together
-Share a story of how you are weak but God is strong
