How do we understand this list? Why were these items included (specifically) and others not (or under a more broad category)?
This list closely mirrors Romans 1.29-32.
All of the words we are talking about today (& a few others in this list) begin with an ‘alpha privative’ (a-), to negate, like un-.

Lovers of Self [philautos: phileo + autos = Self-Lovers; Selfish]
Lovers of Money [philargyros: phileo + argyros = Silver-Lovers; Avaricious]
Boastful [alazones (alazon): Braggarts; ‘One whose mouth is too big for his body’] ((Rom 1.30))
Proud [hyperephanos: Haughty; Arrogant (Contemptuous)] ((Rom 1.30))
Demeaning [blasphemos: Insulting; blasphemous]
Disobedient to Parents (Rom 1.30; apeitheis - rebellious, unbelieving // peitho - trust, convince)
Ungrateful (acharistoi - unthankful, ungracious // charis - grace)
Unholy (anosoi - impious, profane // hosios - holy, devout)
Unloving (Rom. 1.31; astorgoi - without natural affection, unfeeling, heartless // storge - love of kindred)
**Irreconcilable
ἄσπονδος (aspondos, oi) = not truce/treaty (spendo), unwilling to be at peace with others)
An unforgiving, non-conciliatory attitude toward any opponent
**Slanderers
διάβολος (diabolos, oi = accuser (falsely), devil, backbiter)
“The accuser of the brothers...” (Rev. 12.10); Spreaders of gossip, rumors, or lies
Without Self-Control
ἀκρατής (akrates, eis = no judgment (krino; kratos), uncontrolled, not having command over
Indulging passions; no self-discipline
Brutal
ἀνήμερος (anemeros, oi = not tame (hemeros), savage, fierce
Base, violent. By contrast, not merciful. Inhumane.
**Without Love for What is Good
ἀφιλάγαθος (aphilagathos, oi = not loving (phileo) good (agathos), without interest for the (public) good, an enemy of what is good
False teachers disqualified from pastoral leadership (Titus 1:8 “but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, righteous, holy, self-controlled,”)
**Traitors
προδότης (prodotes, ai = betrayer)
Traitor to/of the faith; Luke 6:16 “Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.”; Acts 7:52 “Which of the prophets did your ancestors not persecute? They even killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become.”
Reckless
προπετής (propetes, eis = impetuous, rash/hasty
Hasty action causing one to fall down; participating in foolishness
Conceited
τυφόω (tuphoo, tetuphomenoi = puffed up, vain, extremely proud (having/has been)
Raises a smokescreen of pride; Clouded with/by pride/self-importance
Lovers of Pleasure Rather than Lovers of God
φιλήδονος (philedonos, oi = lovers (phileo) of pleasure (hedone), fond of pleasure
Controlled by the quest for pleasure; hedonists
φιλόθεος (philotheos, oi = lovers (phileo, philos) of God (Theos)

**Holding to the Form of Godliness but Denying Its Power
ἔχοντες (echontes; echo = possess, wear, having)
μόρφωσιν εὐσεβείας (morphosin [morphosis] eusebeias [eusebia] = to a form, embodiment, appearance… of godliness, piety [religious life])
δέ (de = but [contrasting conjunction])
τὴν δὲ δύναμιν αὐτῆς ἠρνημένοι (ten [de] dunamin autos ernemenoi = the <but> power [might, strength, force] of it denying [disregard, repudiate, reject…not acknowledge]) [[2 Timothy 2:12–13 “if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.”]]
