! Rescuing Sinners…why not remove Satan?
* *
Jesus has ALL power over the enemy...
And they were all amazed…He commands even the unclean spirits, *and they obey him.”*
*Mk 1:27*

Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, *that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,*          *Heb 2:14*

Then that lawless one will be revealed *whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming  2* Thess.
2:8.
Jesus defeated Satan and the forces of hell at the Cross.
He is absolutely free to do with Satan as HE pleases.
The huge question is why wait?
Why not destroy him or lock him up NOW!

Let’s look at it this way…if Jesus locked them all up now and put them in the “eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels” as described in Matthew 25:41…which HE could do, HIS raw power would be seen as glorious, *but HIS superior beauty and worth would not shine as brightly as when humans reject the promises of Satan and take pleasure and delight in the greater glory of Jesus.*
* *Let’s come back to this in a moment—*

We know that Jesus has the right and power to do with Satan and all demons as HE pleases.
We saw this in Mark 1:27.
We see again in Luke 22:31-32 that Satan is on a leash and its length is determined by Jesus.
*Lk** 22:31-32  *“Simon, Simon,  look out!
Satan  *has asked* to sift you  like wheat.
But I have prayed  for you  that your faith may not fail.
And you, when you have turned back, strengthen  your brothers.”
Consider Paul’s thorn in the flesh, where did it come from?
It was a “messenger of…Satan.
What was it’s purpose from Jesus perspective?
It served Paul’s humility and displays Jesus power in Paul’s weakness (see 2 Cor.
12:7-10).
So Jesus decision to leave Satan in the world is NOT because HE does not have the right or power to remove him…why then…what is the reason?
#.
One reason is that Satan is Jesus’ lackey in the personal sanctification of the Saints.
*Have you seen this at work in your own life?*
I see it at work almost daily!
What else is there…why would Jesus allow things like the Colombine shootings, World Trade Center, Tsunamis, Virginia  tech?
The Holocaust, the killing fields, Sadam Hussin

If he got rid of Satan all this would stop!
Why doesn’t HE do it?
*1 Jn 3:8b—*The Son of God  was revealed  for this purpose: to destroy the Devil’s works.
*Heb 2:14—*Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, He also shared in these, so that through His death He might destroy the one holding the power of death—that is, the Devil —

So Jesus became human so that HE could die, and by dying destroy the devil.
Jesus could have simply told the devil to “go to hell” but HE did not…WHY?
Satan is defeated by the death of Jesus.
Jesus disarmed Satan, but Satan still has power to deceive, tempt, blind, destroy the flesh.
*How then is he disarmed?*
* *
*1 Co 15:55-57—**O Death, where is your victory?
O Death, where is your sting?*  56 Now the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin  is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory  through our Lord Jesus Christ!

*Why is sin the sting of death?
Only unforgiven sin can condemn the soul and make death the door to hell!*

*1 Pe 3:18—*For Christ also suffered  for sins once for all,   the righteous for the unrighteous,  that He might bring you  to God,  after being put to death in the fleshly realm   but made alive in the spiritual realm.
Since our sins are forgiven for Christ’s sake, Satan has no damning weapon against us…*he can hurt us and if the Lord allows even kill us, but he cannot condemn us*

This is the meaning of Heb 2:14…through death HE might destroy the one holding the power of death…

NOW by the blood of Jesus our sins are forgiven and Satan’s soul-killing power is neutralized for all who are in Christ.
*Col 2:14—*He erased the certificate of debt, with its obligations, that was against us and opposed to us, and has taken it out of the way *by nailing it to the cross.**
** *

Now without sin and the law to condemn us and oppress us, Satan is defeated.
He is disarmed.
Jesus is victorious, NOT by putting him out of existence, but by letting him live and watch while millions of saints find forgiveness for their sins and turn their back on Satan because of the greater glory of the grace and love of Jesus.
#.
If God simply terminated Satan, it would not be so clear that God is both infinitely stronger and infinitely more beautiful, and more to be desired than Satan.
Take a really deep breath…we are getting ready to go very deep.
Listen to Jonathan Edwards describe and explain how God receives glory.
God is glorified within Himself these two ways: 1.
By appearing... to Himself…in His Son, who is the brightness of His glory.
2. By enjoying and delighting in Himself, by flowing forth in infinite . . .
delight towards Himself in his Holy Spirit...[there you have a description of the trinity.]
God glorifies Himself toward the creatures also in two ways: 1.
By appearing to... their understanding.
2. In communicating Himself to their hearts, and in their rejoicing and delighting in, and enjoying, the manifestations which He makes of Himself...*/God is glorified no/**/t/**/ only by His glory's being seen, bu/**/t/**/ by i/**/t/**/s being rejoiced in/.
When **t**hose **t**ha**t** see i**t** deligh**t** in i**t**, God is more glorified **t**han if **t**hey only see i**t**.
**His glory is **t**hen received** by **t**he whole soul, bo**t**h by **t**he unders**t**anding and by **t**he heart*.
God made the world that He might communicate, and the creature receive, His glory; and that it might [be] received both by the mind and heart.
He that testifies his idea of God's glory [doesn't] glorify God so much as he that testifies also his approbation of it and his delight in it.
Cry out to God to enable you to see His glory, (John 17:24) and then cry and ask the Holy Spirit to enable you to delight in His glory more than anything in this world.
Beholding the glory of Christ, herein would I live, herein would I die, herein would I dwell in my thoughts and affections.
To the withering and consumption of all the painted beauties of this world, unto the crucifying of all things here below until they become unto me a dead and deformed thing no way fit for affectionate embraces.
Jon Owen
