Introduction

John 14:15–19 ESV
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. 18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
John 14:25–27 ESV
25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
John 16:7–15 ESV
7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. 12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

3 Realities to Embrace About God’s Abundant Presence through the Holy Spirit

1) He is The Spirit of Truth (vv.14:15-19)

John 14:15–19 ESV
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. 18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
As we embrace the truth of God through the Holy Spirit and walk in obedience to the commands of God we will recognize and experience God’s Abundant Presence.
When we don’t feel like God is present it is usually because we are more like the world than like Jesus.
When we embrace the truth of God we live in obedience to His truth, we truly live in His Abundant Presence!

2) He is The Spirit of Teaching (vv.14:25-27)

John 14:25–27 ESV
25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
We have a lot to learn about the realities in which we live.
Most of what we see and experience is a distortion of eternal realities.
Our enemy is a deceiver and a liar. He is a manipulator that seeks to steal, kill, and destroy.
If he can do so without pushback when we are blissfully unaware then it’s even better for him.
We need the Holy Spirit to teach us all things.
When a baby is born it doesn’t have a vast intellect or ability. We have to teach children even the most basic of things.
We have to continue to teach children as they grow.
When you are born again, you are a spiritual infant who needs to be taught even the most basic of things about life, truth, reality, purpose, etc.
Anyone who thinks to themselves, “I have this whole Jesus-thing figured out” doesn’t have a clue.
It’s when we humble ourselves and realize that we have no clue what we are doing and therefore we need to rely fully on the Holy Spirit to teach us and help us to remember, that we start to really figure out God’s economy.
When we embrace reliance upon the Holy Spirit we experience God’s Abundant Presence and therefore His peace as well.

3) He is the Spirit of Conviction (vv.16:7-15)

We once belonged to this world but now we belong to Christ.
The Spirit will help us to be in the world but not of this world by bringing to conviction to our lives.
The Spirit will convict of sin, righteousness, and judgement.
Sin of unbelief (John 3:18 “18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” )
Righteousness through Jesus’ death (2 Corinthians 5:21 “21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” )
Judgment has already been rendered and the ruler of this world has been found wanting (John 8:44b “ He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”)
As the Spirit brings Conviction to the world He also brings glory to Christ.
To reveal the decay in the world is to elevate the flourishing life in Christ.
As we respond to the conviction of the Spirit we display the glory of Christ by our lives.
The reverse is also true. When we ignore the conviction of the Holy Spirit we hide the glory of Christ by our lives.
When we embrace the convictions of the Holy Spirit upon our lives we experience His Abundant Presence and His Glory.
