Intro
We are starting a new series tonight called Where are you going?
We have talked previously about this thing called life being a race
God has a plan and destiny for each of us
We need to be prepared to run well!
Keeping our eyes on Jesus
But what exactly does the track look like?
Is it round - round and round?
Is it point A to B to C?
Are there signs on the path along the way to make sure we are still in the race at all?
Why can’t we take shortcuts?
I want us to discover the answers to these questions together.
Some of you are seniors and your head is full of decisions that need to be made, uncertainties about the future, still trying to figure out what you are interested in, what you like or don’t like.
Even if you are freshmen, sophomores, or juniors, there are so many questions
You’re generation is being pulled in so many directions by so many sources:
Peers, parents, teachers, tv, social media, the church...
My hope, is that as we go thru God’s Word and understand His path for our life, you will feel more planted, more confident, and therefore more excited about your race and about all the great things that God has planned for you
So, let’s dive in!

Scripture
Isaiah 40:31 NIV
31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
This is one of my favorite verses. If you are old you may know that it is even a worship song
Let’s break down what it means
Observation
What do you observe?
What is hope?
to hope in the Lord means to trust him completely with our lives and to serve him faithfully.
Hope is to believe in/for something not yet seen or given
Other versions say “they that wait upon the Lord”
Commentary goes on to say that we are to wait patiently for his promises and purposes to be fulfilled.
renew strength?
soar on wings like eagles?
run and not grow weary?
walk but not be faint?
Those who truly have put their hope in God will turn to him quickly as their source of help in time of need.
Those who hope in the Lord are promised:
God’s strength to revive and refresh them when they feel exhausted from suffering & difficulty
the ability to rise above their difficulties like an eagle that soars in the sky
an eagle doesn’t fight the wind, it floats on top of it
I love to swim, my husband hates it and for 1 reason
I float - I could float for hours without moving hardly a muscle. It is calming and relaxing - my happy place
Chris sinks like a rock and so has to use his muscles constantly to stay afloat and is tired and sore after swimming
the ability to run spiritually without tiring and to make steady progress without giving up
steady - forward motion - and on the right track with all the signs pointed out and cups of water to drink and cookies to eat along the way!
Application
So how do we apply it to our lives???
We have to hope, we have to wait
If we don’t...
Read verse 30 Isaiah 40:30
Isaiah 40:30 NIV
30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
even young, strong, able-bodied youth struggle
You can struggle with God or without
So how do we struggle with God?
We hope, we wait, and we enjoy the ride
Deal with the emotion, and let go. Emotions are not facts. They are flags to point out something. What do you do with the emotion - that is your reality
Prayer
Pray that we will hope/wait
Pray over circumstances/trials, situations/seasons
Pray for strength, ability to soar/float, and to keep steadily moving forward without giving up.
