Class- 12 Man, His need glorification (4/23/24)

Introduction:

Man has always had instructions from God (Gen2:17-18)
Man rebelled against God (Gen3:6)
Sin entered and sin had consequences (Rom6:23) for all fall short (Rom3:23)
The fall of man resulted in humiliation and suffering.
Think of this, God’s greatest creation, created in His image was humiliated and needed to be lifted up from his place of humiliation, his degraded position.
What does the word glorification mean?
the action of describing or representing something as admirable, especially unjustifiably.
praise and worship of God.
There are several passages that speak of glory outside of glorifying God
Pro16:31 - grey hair
Pro20:29 - young men it is their strength.
There is no higher glory than to give glory to God, for He is admirable, and praiseworthy.

Aim:

To show God’s wonderful desire, plan for the fallen world, for mankind to bring glory to Him. (Rom8:17-18)
To see how Mans need, glorification plays a part in God’s scheme of redemption (2The1:10, 12; ref: 1Pt5:10)
Glorification of man is by the grace of God.
Glorification can be realized only in and through Jesus Christ.

Outline:

A. The glorification of Jesus Christ (Turn to read Php2:5-11)
Philippians 2:5–11 NASB95
5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The suffering of Jesus glorified the Father (turn to read Jn12:27-28)
John 12:27–28 NASB95
27 “Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. 28 “Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came out of heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.”
other scriptures to note down 1Pt1:11, 21, 4:11.
The humiliation of Jesus, manner of death, resulted in glorifying the Father and the Son (read Jn13:31)
John 13:31 NASB95
31 Therefore when he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in Him;
The glorification of Jesus is above (excells) (refl Php2:9-11; turn to read 1Tim3:16)
1 Timothy 3:16 NASB95
16 By common confession, great is the mystery of godliness: He who was revealed in the flesh, Was vindicated in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Proclaimed among the nations, Believed on in the world, Taken up in glory.
The glory that is Jesus’ He shares with those who suffer with Him. (ref: Jn17:4; turn to Col3:4 and then Rom8:17-18)
Colossians 3:4 NASB95
4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
then
Romans 8:17–18 NASB95
17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
As you can see from the proceeding this is divine glory due to the One who deserves all “glory, honor and praise.” But one day, we too will be glorified so now let’s look at the glorification of Christians.

Glorification of Christians (ref: Rom8:12-30; turn to and read Eph1:18)

Ephesians 1:18 NASB95
18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
The Christian’s glorification is part of God’s eternal purpose (turn to read Rom8:28-30; Rm9:23-24; ref: 1Cor2:7-9)
Romans 8:28–30 NASB95
28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.
then
Romans 9:23–24 NASB95
23 And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory, 24 even us, whom He also called, not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles.
The Christian’s salvation in Christ Jesus is with eternal glory (turn to read 2Cor4:17; ref 1Pt5:10)
2 Corinthians 4:17 NASB95
17 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison,
The Christian’s calling is into God’s own kingdom and glory (ref: 1The2:12; turn to and read 2The2:13-14 )
2 Thessalonians 2:13–14 NASB95
13 But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth. 14 It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Christian’s glory is with Christ turn to read Php4:19; ref: Col3:4)
Philippians 4:19 NASB95
19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
The Christian’s future glory shall be revealed (turn to read Rom8:18-21)
Romans 8:18–21 NASB95
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
The Christian’s glorification involves the body (Turn to Rom8:22-23; ref: Php3:21)
Romans 8:22–23 NASB95
22 For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. 23 And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.
The Christian’s joy is in the hope (earnest expectation) of this glory to come (Turn to read Col1:27; ref: Rom5:1-2).
Colossians 1:27 NASB95
27 to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Conclusion:

Scripture to consider in closing today (turn to Rom8:29-30)
Romans 8:29–30 NASB95
29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.
The church has been invited to share in the suffering of Christ.
To endure trials and count them a joy
All so that we may be glorified with Him one day for
We have been called
For those He foreknew
He also foreordained to be conformed into the image of His Son.
Whom He foreordained he also called
Whom He called He also justified
Whom he justified he also glorified!
God’s eternal plan was for God’s glory and then to take man in his humiliated state due to sin and bring him to the glory of God for the glory of God to be the glory of God in Christ Jesus!
