Which is the ❶ first petition? “hallowed be Your name
Or, “May others see God’s name (His person) as holy.”
Opposite of Third Commandment: “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.”
WSC Question 54 What is required in the third commandment? Answer. The third commandment requireth the holy and reverent use of God’s names, titles, attributes, ordinances, Word, and works.
WSC Question 101 What do we pray for in the first petition? Answer. In the first petition, (which is, Hallowed be thy name,) we pray, That God would enable us and others to glorify him in all that whereby he maketh himself known; and that he would dispose all things to his own glory.

Second Petition

Which is the ❷ second petition? “your kingdom come”
What is “kingdom”? It’s two words pushed together: “king” and “domain,” king+dominion, but we drop part of “dominion.”
I am the king of this domain, 0.24 acres of land and a house with a car.
Nanna is the queen of this domain.
In the second petition, who is the king, and what is the domain?
Gospels, “kingdom of heaven,” “kingdom of “God” (mostly Matthew-Mark-Luke, the Synoptic Gospels)
Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Some want the “kingdom of heaven” to be a political Jewish kingdom and “kingdom of God” to be a spiritual gospel kingdom. Matthew 19:23–24 (ESV) And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven. ²⁴ Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”
Present now: Matthew 12:28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
Almost here: Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Jesus is the King. All of reality is His domain.
Isaiah 52:13–15 Behold, my servant shall act wisely; he shall be high and lifted up, and shall be exalted. ¹⁴ As many were astonished at you— his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of the children of mankind—¹⁵so shall he sprinkle many nations. Kings shall shut their mouths because of him, for that which has not been told them they see, and that which they have not heard they understand.
Isaiah 53:11–12 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities. ¹²Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.
WSC Question 102 What do we pray for in the second petition? Answer. In the second petition, (which is, Thy kingdom come,) we pray, That Satan’s kingdom may be destroyed; and that the kingdom of grace may be advanced, ourselves and others brought into it, and kept in it; and that the kingdom of glory may be hastened.
Revelation 22:20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
