2,000 years ago 2 followers of Jesus named Paul and Silas were walking to church in a town called Philippi.
They met this girl who was a slave and could predict the future by the power of an evil spirit. Her owners made bank off of her future-telling abilities.
She kept saying this about Paul and Silas “These guys are servants of the Most High God- they’re telling you how to be saved!”
Paul got annoyed by this, so he cast the evil spirit out of her.
Great for her… but what do you think her owners thought about this?
They done lost their piggy bank…
So they had Paul & Silas arrested, beaten and put in jail.
They were put in stocks…their feet were chained to a bar of wood.
Most people would complain or become depressed… but these guys were different.
They started praying and singing to God… at midnight!
Then there’s this huge earthquake.
The whole prison shakes, doors fling open, and everyone’s chains come loose.
Their jailer wakes up, and when he saw everything he drew his sword to kill himself.
Why would he do that? Because his boss would have had him killed for letting the prisoners loose…
But Paul yells out: “Don’t do it! We’re all here!”
Then the jailer comes to Paul and Silas shaking as he says: “What must I do to be saved?”
31 They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. 33 At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized. 34 The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household.
There are some of you in this room who may feel hopeless like this jailer was.
You’re depressed and feel like there’s no way out.
Cry out to Jesus!
He is your hope and salvation!
Or maybe you know someone in your home who feels hopeless. Mom, Dad, brother or sister.
This Gospel of Jesus Christ is the key to changing entire families.
When you give your entire life to Jesus, The people in your home and around you at school will see the difference and want to know why you are changed.
You aren’t cussing anymore.
You don’t get mad at everyone like you used to.
You aren’t guy or girl crazy… but crazy about Jesus now.
You will never find the hope and peace that you need in a human relationship.
It’s only found in Christ.
Christ is calling out to you right now.
If you don’t know Him, all you have to do is turn from your sins, turn to Jesus Christ and place all your trust in Him, and you will be saved.
