Planted (Buried) to be fruitful

Only out of the death of the Son of Man, can life be brought to the believers. only then could he bring good news to the gentiles.
Why, Son of Man?
He had to be a human (of the seed of woman Genesis 3:15) in order to live righteousness and he had to die to be brought out of the grave as the first fruit.
John 12:20-22 “Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.”
Why Philip
He was the guy who like Thomas was a little doubtful? He argued with Jesus about not seeing the Father. He out of all the disciples also had a Greek name.
Jesus fame had grown beyond Israel. The Greeks had heard his name.
Why did Jesus not invite them in?
It still wasn’t time, salvation came from the cross. Access for everybody was coming though.
John 12:23–25 ESV
And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
Why did Jesus say it that way?
Jesus states it’s time for him to die. He also states why he has to die and that any who follow him must be committed.
As a believer are you willing to die for your faith?
If you are not willing to lay your life down for Christ you may lose it for eternity. Don’t love you more than you love God. On the other hand, love your neighbor enough to tell them about Jesus.
John 12:26–28 ESV
If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”
Why serve?
Why follow?
Jesus set the example of the suffering servant.
Isaiah 53 read
Philippians 2:5-11 read
Why did God speak?
To make a point to those that heard.
John 12:29-32 “The crowd that stood there and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.” Jesus answered, “This voice has come for your sake, not mine. Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.””
Why judgement?
Because sin requires punishment. Failure demands an answer.
Why lifted up?
What is the most shameful way a jewish man could die?
Nehushtan was presented to the Jews, how? Why was the serpent raised on a pole?
I don’t know that it is sound reasoning, but I heard someone say Jesus dies on a tree because Eve ate the fruit from the tree. I don’t see that there but maybe.
John 12:33-34 “He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die. So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?””
The jews believed the Christ/Messiah would stay with them forever.
Why were they misled?
They were more engaged with tradition and self-service than knowing the Word of God.
John 12:35-36 “So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them.”
Why hide?
A lot of people were looking to kill him and it wasn’t time yet.
We are to be salt and light Matthew 5:13-16
We are to make disciples Matthew 28:18-19
We are to bear fruit John 15:5
Why are you ashamed?
Why are you not ashamed?
Jesus gave everything to give you everything.
