Text: Leviticus 10:1-11
I read a very important article this week that I think I will share with you this morning.
On thegospelcoalition.org titled, Self-Worship Is the World’s Fastest-Growing Religion NOVEMBER 10, 2021  |  THADDEUS WILLIAMS
84 percent of Americans believe that “enjoying yourself is the highest goal of life.”
Further, 86 percent believe that to enjoy yourself you must “pursue the things you desire most.”
And 91 percent affirm this statement: “To find yourself, look within yourself.”

Six Commandments

These are the sacred commandments of this ancient and still-trending world religion:
Your mind is the source and standard of truth, so no matter what, trust yourself. #theanswersarewithin
Your emotions are authoritative, so never question (or let anyone else question) your feelings. #followyourheart
You are sovereign, so flex your omnipotence and bend the universe around your dreams and desires. #liveyourtruth
You are supreme, so always act according to your chief end, to glorify and enjoy yourself forever. #yolo
You are the summum bonum—the standard of goodness—so don’t let anyone oppress you with the antiquated notion of being a sinner who needs grace. #neverchange.
You are the Creator, so use that limitless creative power to craft your identity and purpose. #authenticity.

Leviticus chapter 10 over a verse destructive verse is spelling out something very important for us to understand here this morning.
It is giving to all Believers for all time the conditions of proper worship.
That is this simple principle.
Leviticus 10:3 KJV 1900
Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the Lord spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.
I will be sanctified
I will be glorified
Understand the passage that we read here.
Sanctification = Glorification
A worship that treats God as if he is not sanctified is a worship that does not glorify him.
A worship that does not glorify God will not demonstrate how sanctified he is.
HE IS HOLY
Interestingly enough we get an idea of what we could call “worldly worship” works. To worship God in a worldly way is to treat either God as if he is the same as any other option, or it fails to bring God glory as God.
Consider how we might see this today…
Jesus is one of the ways…
Jesus is a good teacher…
Jesus is an example…
God had a part in Creation…
Why are these so offensive? because they fail to set God apart as he deserves. They blur God into a part or an option but do not leave him in His proper distinct state.
This is why I believe that churches should not focus on being “seeker sensitive” rather Savior sensitive. I don’t believe that the role of the church is entertainment. We mustn’t as a church imagine that we should make our music like the worlds to get the next generation. This is a failed experiment because what we have found after a generation of building churches that Sell a Jesus through the world’s music, entertainment, and dress, That when the world finds out that its all a bait an switch they walk away from the real HOLY GOD.
You see we fail at real worship when we fail to hold him us a Holy, Unique, different from all those that would replace him.
We hold him up to every high thing that exalteth itself over the knowledge of God and we fight it. Because he is holy.
HE IS DISTINCTIVE
It may shock you today God is not cool with your sin…
THe world treast us like fools fro trustingin in a name that is above every name. When you live distinct from the way they live you are lunatic.
You might remember how the media treated Mike Pence when he came out saying He never drove in a car alone with a woman that wasn’t his wife. He was never in an office alone with a woman that wasn’t his wife.
They treated him like a fool. And then spent the better part of the same year in absolute protest over “Me too”. I’m all for busting these guys that have committed Crimes against women. But then to treat a man that has standards to protect women he’s the crazy one.
When Christians point out what is holy and unholy the world hates it.
Hey lets not get embarassed about the fact that our God hates sin:
He Hates
Abortion
Lust
Adultery
Fornication
Drunkenness
Pride
Envy
Theft
Gossip
He hates it.
Understand that world worship violates real worship by:
Minimizing His Holiness & normalizing Distinction.
A blessed position taken for granted.
Leviticus gives just two verses to the incident that takes place in the Tabernacle.
When I see this passage my heart braks. Aarons’ two oldest sons are burnt to a crisp and Moses tells Aaron no greiving.
DO not uncover your head
Do not rend your clothes
DO not join in the funeral services
Because they didn not set me apart, they did not glorify me.
Understand, WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEIR SIN WAS.
WE do have an Idea, look at verse 9
A new rule had to be made because of their sin. This rule says don’t drink alcohol and worship. ( I sure wish I could find a verse that says drinking alcohol was a bad Idea.)
Notice why we need this new rule.
That they may make a distinction between the holy and unholy the clean and the unclean.
Leviticus 10:10–11 KJV 1900
And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean; And that ye may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the Lord hath spoken unto them by the hand of Moses.
You need to teach the children of Israel that real worship
Set Him Apart and Sanctifies him.
There by they may glorify him.
Catch this…
“His Word will not be accessible to hearts and minds that don’t see a difference between the HOLY and the profane.”
The holiness of God speaks to God’s existence as completely separate from his creation and, at the same time, to his pure and utterly incorruptible nature.
More than 35,000 people a year make the inconvenient trek to Nepal’s Mount Everest,
4.5 million to the Grand Canyon,
3.5 million to Yosemite, and
30 million to Niagara Falls.
Deep down, we crave awe. We were made for it, and science is slowly catching up to this ancient biblical truth.
Scientist Paul Piff of the University of California, Irvine, coined the term “small self” to describe this phenomenon. After exposing his subjects to several “elicitors of awe,” Piff reported, “we found the same sorts of effects—people felt smaller, less self-important, and behaved in a more prosocial fashion.” Awestruck people were more generous, more dialed into the needs of others, and more caring toward the natural world.
Arizona State behavioral scientist Michelle Lani Shiota has found that awe not only increases generous decision-making; it also drastically improves our cognition. Awe makes us less susceptible to bad arguments and more responsive to good ones. There’s a mountain of research from psychologists connecting experiences of awesomeness with a substantial decline in depression.
1 Samuel 2:2 KJV 1900
There is none holy as the Lord: For there is none beside thee: Neither is there any rock like our God.
It is fundamentally essential that the believer fall in love with a HOLY God. We cannot actually say that we love God and imagine that we will accept him without his Holiness. Either you love the God that is different than all others and in the same breathe hates your sin or you do not love God. You have violated the second commandment and have created a God that is acceptable to you and serve that one not the God of Scripture.
Sadly, Nadab and Abihu knew God is Holy because:
They had SEEN holiness.
Exodus 24:10–11 KJV 1900
And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness. And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.
The Bible records that these two men along with their father Aaron had seen God in all his holiness.
They had seen how He was different and better in kind and nature.
They had SEEN Unity
Exodus 24:3 KJV 1900
And Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the Lord hath said will we do.
They had seen what it looks like to submit as a people to the Holiness of God.
Elevated veiw of God. se.
Exodus 32:3–4 KJV 1900
And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron. And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
Exodus 32:26 KJV 1900
Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the Lord’s side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.
Exodus 32:29 KJV 1900
For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to the Lord, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.
You see there was one other thing that the boys had seen. That is the compromise of their father. They had watched the day that the high priest lowered the image of God to a golden calf and gave that calf all the credit for pulling them from Egypt.
Just think of it. Is is any wonder the priests could look lightly on the things of God when they saw their Father look so lightly on them?
Dad, don’t be surprised when the sin you dabble in becomes a def finding feature in the life of your children.
Don’t blow church off and imagine it will be important to your children.
Don’t skip serving God and others and imagine your children will care about anyone but themselves.
Don’t play with your sin and imagin your children wont be consumed by the same.
DECIDE “Who is on the LORD’s side.”
Consecrate yourself as men and women of a Holy God.
Remember at its core Calvary is a path of Holiness.
Jesus knew His Father Yeah Jesus himself was perfectly holy.
Hebrews 7:26 KJV 1900
For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
Acts 3:14 KJV 1900
But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;
Jesus went outside the camp to be consumed for us.
Romans 3:25–26 KJV 1900
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Hebrews 13:12 KJV 1900
Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.
Isaiah 53:5 KJV 1900
But he was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: The chastisement of our peace was upon him; And with his stripes we are healed.
WE HAVE A GREATER HIGH PRIEST
The Holy on behalf of the Unholy.
Hebrews 4:14–16 KJV 1900
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 7:25 KJV 1900
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
Then in His grace he calls us form the destruction of sin and uncleanness to join him in the work and life of Holiness
Elevated view of God.
1 Peter 1:15–16 KJV 1900
But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Hatred for sin
This is not a hatred for sinners but a love fo the holy and a hatred for the unholy draws us to love these damaged by sin.
Jude 23 KJV 1900
and others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
