Do you pray the Lord’s way? The one thing about this section is it has been so ironic. Irony according to Merriam Webster “the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning” or it could mean “incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result”. An example of irony that I found online is a fire station burning down. You expect them to be able to fight it. I also found from the same website If a child runs away from a water balloon, only to fall into the pool. Another example are those who hate big corporations having a Mac computer, drinking starbucks and listening to their airpods. You would expect them to avoid those things. Also when a professional athlete has another favorite sport then the one he plays . What is ironic about this section, is that Jesus says not to use vain/rote repetitions. Yet here we have the Lord’s Prayer which is consistently repeated. They make it into vain repetition. Which we see here is not how God wants us to pray. When Jesus said after this manner, He was talking about the things prayer should consist of. The prayer is the “Model Prayer” not because of the words but the things in the prayer. God wants us to pray like this. In Luke 11, the disciples come to Jesus, and ask Him to teach them to pray. Jesus has a certain way for you to pray. He wants certain prayers to consist your prayer life.
