Some say because of verses like:
Matthew 10:28 “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”; Ezekiel 18:4 ““Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.” ; James 5:20 “let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.”
That these disprove the idea that man is immortal.
However, I add that Adam and Eve were dead but still living. We were before and after Christ as well. Hebrews 2:9 “9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.” The second death is spoken of in turn to Revelation 2:11; 20:6,14; 21:8 which is eternal separation in the lake of fire; Revelation 19:20; 20:7-10,14,15

Man is not immortal in this flesh but will be resurrected to eternity with or without God

John 5:28–29 “Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.”
There is nothing to indicate that Angels, Demons, Man, will ever truly cease to exist, 1 Corinthians 15:53,54 says the resurrected person is without end. 1 Corinthians 15:53 “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”
People both physically and spiritually dead stand before God to be judged, Rev 20:12-15
People that have perished, continue. This is the truth and knowledge of the believer. Of hope and of judgment. Lk 16:22, 23 reveal that in the telling of the rich man and Lazarus.
Hell, is a real, very real place and experience. You will physically (resurrected body) enter into this judgment.
Matthew 18:8 ““If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire.”
Matthew 18:9 “And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire.”
Mark 9:43–48 “If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—44where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’ 45And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—46where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’ 47And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire—48where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’”
Matthew 25:41 ““Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:”
This spurs us to be mindful not just that the day is nearly here, but the time is short for so many. Romans 13:8–14 “Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. 11And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.”
In: Sheds Doctrine of Endless Punishment he primarily uses Scripture.
“God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil” (Eccl. 12:14).
“The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with devouring burnings?” (Is. 33:14).
Of “the men that have transgressed against God,” it is said that their “worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched” (Is. 66:24).
“I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit. His throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels like burning fire; thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened” (Dan. 7:9,10). “Many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt” (Dan. 12:2).
“The Lord hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I never will forget any of their works” (Amos 8:7). “They shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in the day when I make up my jewels” (Mai. 3:17).
“The spirit of man goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast goeth downward” (Eccl. 3:21). The soul of the animal dies with the body; that of the man does not. The statement that “the Son of man shall be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth” (Matt. 12:40), refers to the burial of his body, not to the residence of his soul. When Christ said to the penitent thief, “Today shalt thou be with me in paradise,” he did not mean that his human soul and that of the penitent should be in “the heart of the earth,” but in the heavenly paradise. Christ is represented as dwelling in heaven between his ascension and his second advent. “Him must the heavens receive, till the time of the restitution of all things” (Acts 3:21). “The Lord shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God” (1 Thess. 4:16). “Our conversation is in heaven, from which we look for our Saviour the Lord Jesus” (Phil. 3:20).

Key Verses Hell

Matthew 13:40–43 “Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. 41The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, 42and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
Luke 12:4–5 ““And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!”
Jude 7 “as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.”
Revelation 20:14–15 “Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”
But there is an out. A satisfactory price was paid for our sin, and we by faith in His name, can have at this very moment, forgiveness and the promise of eternal life. Everything we have, tells us this is possible, John 20:30–31 “And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”
