INTRODUCTION:
TS: Notice some anchors for praying in times of trial:

I- EXPRESS YOUR TRUST IN THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD (PSALM 25:1-3).

Psalm 25:1–3 (NLT)
1 O Lord, I give my life to you.
2 I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat.
3 No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.

A- Begin with surrender of your whole life to God. (Psalm 25:1)

Psalm 25:1 (NLT)
1 O Lord, I give my life to you.
1- The Psalmist surrenders his whole life (nepesh = נֶֶפֶשׁ) toGod. means: “soul; self; life; person; heart.” The inner person is nepesh, while the outer person, or reputation, is shem, most commonly translated “name.”
(Psalm 86:4)
Psalm 86:4 (NLT)
4 Give me happiness, O Lord, for I give myself to you.
2- If God has the innermost core of your being, he will own the rest of you as well.

B- Remember that God is faithful to those who follow him with their whole heart. (Psalm 25:2-3).

Psalm 25:2–3 (NLT)
2 I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat.
3 No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.
1- The scriptures give assurance of God’s faithfulness to such people.
(Romans 10:11)
Romans 10:11 (NLT)
11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”

C- Confess your confidence in God’s faithfulness to direct your life. (Psalm 25:8-10).

Psalm 25:8–10 (NLT)
8 The Lord is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray.
9 He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way.
10 The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his demands.
1- The Lord will always lead his child in the right path (Psalm 25:8-9).
Psalm 25:8–9 (NLT)
8 The Lord is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray.
9 He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way.
2- The Lord always lovingly and faithfully leads his obedient child in the right path. (Psalm 25:10).
Psalm 25:10 (NLT)
10 The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his demands.

II- EXPRESS YOUR DESIRE FOR GOD TO INSTRUCT YOU (PSALM 25:4-5).

Psalm 25:4–5 (NLT)
4 Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow.
5 Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.

A- Ask God to show you the right path to walk. (Psalm 25:4)

Psalm 25:4 (NLT)
4 Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow.
1- The thought conveyed is that the Lord knows the right path and he wants God to personally show him.
2- We need help in walking godly when dealing with trials.

B- Ask God to teach you His truth from His word. (Psalm 25:5)

Psalm 25:5 (NLT)
5 Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.
1- “Point out” renders the Hebrew word, lamad (לָמַד), to help one learn. The Hebrew process was to teach by rote and example.
a- This would personally involve the Lord in the process.
2- “Guide” = Hebrew “darak” (דָּרַךְ), meaning to lead or tread with, to lead in a march.
a- The Lord is being asked to personally teach the psalmist, leading the way through the trial.

C- Express your faith in God’s instruction. (Psalm 25:12-15).

Psalm 25:12–15 (NLT)
12 Who are those who fear the Lord? He will show them the path they should choose.
13 They will live in prosperity, and their children will inherit the land.
14 The Lord is a friend to those who fear him. He teaches them his covenant.
15 My eyes are always on the Lord, for he rescues me from the traps of my enemies.
1- The Lord will instruct, resulting in good things for his children.
2- The Lord is a friend, who rescues his children.

III- EXPRESS YOUR DESIRE FOR GOD TO EXTEND HIS GRACE INTO YOUR LIFE (PSALM 25:6-22).

A- Reflect on God’s grace extended in the past. (Psalm 25:6).

Psalm 25:6 (NLT)
6 Remember, O Lord, your compassion and unfailing love, which you have shown from long ages past.
1- Talk to God about his love and faithfulness in the past.
a- He does not need to be reminded, but you do.

B- Remember that God does not punish for sins that have already been confessed. (Psalm 25:7).

Psalm 25:7 (NLT)
7 Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth. Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O Lord.
1- In light of Calvary, He will no longer remember our past sins. We need to remember that fact.
(1 John 1:7)
1 John 1:7 (NLT)
7 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.

C- Request forgiveness for current rebellion. (Psalm 25:11).

Psalm 25:11 (NLT)
11 For the honor of your name, O Lord, forgive my many, many sins.
(1 John 1:9)
1 John 1:9 (NLT)
9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

D- Request help for the present trials. (Psalm 25:16-22).

1- Request God’s grace to help in the present trial (Psalm 25:16).
Psalm 25:16 (NLT)
16 Turn to me and have mercy, for I am alone and in deep distress.
2- Tell God how you feel about your trial (Psalm 25:17).
Psalm 25:17 (NLT)
17 My problems go from bad to worse. Oh, save me from them all!
(Hebrews 4:16)
Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)
16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
3- Recognize that God empathizes with your pain (Psalm 25:18).
Psalm 25:18 (NLT)
18 Feel my pain and see my trouble. Forgive all my sins.
(Hebrews 4:14-15)
Hebrews 4:14–15 (NLT)
14 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe.
15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.
4- Make your specific request (Psalm 25:19-20).
